Busquets Announces Retirement at End of 2025 MLS Season
Inter Miami star Sergio Busquets has announced he will retire at the end of the 2025 MLS season. The Barcelona and Spain legend won 9 La Liga titles, 3 Champions Leagues, and the 2010 World Cup.

Inter Miami midfielder and former Barcelona and Spain legend Sergio Busquets has confirmed he will retire from professional football at the close of the 2025 Major League Soccer campaign.
The 37-year-old made the announcement on Thursday in a video shared via his Instagram page.
“These will be my last months on the pitch. I’m retiring very happy, proud, fulfilled, and above all grateful,” Busquets said. “A heartfelt thank you to everyone and to football for everything. You will always be a part of this beautiful story.”
Celebrated for his elegance, composure, and intelligence in midfield, Busquets is widely regarded as one of the greatest defensive midfielders of all time. He won nine La Liga titles and three Champions League trophies with Barcelona, while also playing a pivotal role in Spain’s 2010 FIFA World Cup and 2012 European Championship triumphs, earning 143 caps.
Busquets stepped away from international football after the 2022 World Cup before joining Lionel Messi at Inter Miami in 2023.
Reacting to the announcement, Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso, who played alongside Busquets for Spain, praised his former teammate’s vision.
“He wasn’t the fastest but he was the quickest mentally, always a step ahead so he could make the right decisions,” Alonso said. “That’s why he had such a brilliant career and we all speak very fondly of Busi.”
