Court inspector shot by kidnappers in Imo dies

He said “the deceased lawyer died on Wednesday after she suffered a gunshot injury from dare-devil kidnappers who abducted her on May 22 in front of her house.”

A court inspector in Imo State, Odera Onumajulu, who sustained gunshot injuries from her kidnappers is dead.

The Owerri branch of the Nigeria Bar Association confirmed the death of the lawyer to The PUNCH on Thursday in Owerri.

Onumajulu who was kidnapped and shot on May 22 in Owerri, died on Wednesday.

Until her death, the victim was a Customary Court Inspector. She died on Wednesday evening after medical personnel battled for one month to save her life.

The gunmen who kidnapped her in front of her house shot her before letting her go.

The Secretary of NBA, Owerri branch, Chinedu Agu, said that the branch was saddened by the death of the female lawyer.

He said “the deceased lawyer died on Wednesday after she suffered a gunshot injury from dare-devil kidnappers who abducted her on May 22 in front of her house.

“Before the ugly incident, Onumajulu was a Customary Court Inspector attached to the Customary Court of Appeal (CCA) and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2016.

“It is very sad how another colleague has become a victim of the ravaging insecurity in Imo.

“We extend our condolences to both her family and extended members of the family,” he said.
