Court Remands Five in Ebonyi Over Youth’s Murder, ₦39m Truck Robbery
An Abakaliki court has remanded five suspects over the murder of a youth and the ₦39m truck robbery in Ebonyi’s Ekoli-Edda. Community leaders commend police professionalism as case adjourned to October 2, 2025.
An Abakaliki Magistrate Court in Ebonyi State has arraigned and ordered the remand of five suspects over the alleged murder of a youth and the robbery of a truck worth ₦39 million in Ekoli, Edda Local Government Area.
The truck reportedly belongs to Dr. Eni Uduma-Chima, Chairman of the Ebonyi State Fertilizer and Chemical Company Limited Board.
The accused persons—Amarachi Irem (27), Oledi Philip-Nsi (26), Ogbu Nkama (22), Chibueze Nnachi (36), and Okoro Stanley Onuu (39)—are facing four counts of conspiracy, murder, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of firearms.
One of the suspects, Oledi Philip-Nsi, also faces a separate charge of attempting to murder Hon. Eni Uduma-Chima on June 1, 2025, at Ekoli-Edda.
According to police prosecutor Eze Ndubuaku, the crimes were committed on July 9, 2025, at Ndienworo village, Ekoli-Edda. He alleged that the defendants conspired to murder one Udu Nnachi-Orji, whom they fatally shot, before stealing the truck valued at ₦39 million.
The prosecutor stated that the offences contravene Sections 324 and 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 33, Vol. 1, Laws of Ebonyi State of Nigeria 2009.
Although defence counsel Sunday Ajah pleaded for bail, Chief Magistrate Sandra Onyibe declined, noting that the court lacked jurisdiction to grant bail in capital offences. She ordered the suspects to be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case until October 2, 2025, for a compliance report.
Meanwhile, elders of Ekoli-Edda community have commended the Ebonyi State Police Command for what they described as professionalism in handling the investigation and prosecution.
Chief Etta Egor, speaking on behalf of the community, praised Commissioner of Police Adaku Uche-Anya for resisting alleged political interference.
“We commend the CP and her team for their professional conduct. Even though some suspects are still on the run, we are confident they will be arrested. Peace has returned to Ekoli since these arrests and prosecutions began,” Egor said.
