It has become a very big challenge and misconception to the society to picture the disparity between schooling and education. Many of our citizens especially the youths have failed to understand the difference between schooling and education. I thought these have to be addressed urgently because the present generation may lost knowledge if the difference is not understood. It may make our youths to be chasing the shadow instead of the form. According to Mark Twain, “dont let schooling interfere with your education”. From these, I came to realize that the present situation is not lack of schooling but lack of education in the schooling system.

Actually, the Nigerian youths are very encouraging in going to school. What I mean by encouraging is we have reasonable percentage of youths who are schooling in one institution and who have also graduated. Looking at the number of applicants who applied for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination(UTME) every year, we came to realize how our citizens are truly school lovers. With these, I gave credit to my fellow youths for such strong desire for schooling.

After all these schooling for many years, spending a reasonable amount of money for the entire process and wasting your precious time for the years, the heartbreaking came up when the salt is lost from the soup. Everything become waste if there is no education in your schooling. Lack of education is lack of knowledge which may crush a society to the finest particle.

It is very obvious in this country that one can spend many years schooling but end up without education to hold onto. The real salt of academic success(which is to be educated) is gradually wearing away from the soup of schooling. The schooling system of this country does not lay emphasis on education but end product which is gabbage in, gabbage out.

Schooling (as was suppose) is a formal way of education. It is a system or institution established to impact knowledge (education) into someone. It is an institution where limited knowledge is given to individual in an organised atmosphere. While Education is the acquisition of knowledge either formal or informal. Education is life breathe that sustain one in any environment. To crave it all, education is knowledge. According to Eistein, “Education is that which remains if one has forgotten everything learned in school”.

Do you ever ponder on why malpractice have become order of the day in our schools? The schooling system we found ourselves can easily makes one to lost education. As I said earlier, the system is 90% on end product. Emphasis is based on the capacity of your memory card upstairs not acquisition of knowledge. The system lost focus on impacting education on the minds of the youths. The grade is now the utmost importance not the knowledge acquisition. One of the major problem of the country which is unemployment can be traced to these fact. The schooling system can produce numerous and flashy grades to the society without producing education which can offer solution to the societal problem. The question of “what can you offer ” is usually left unanswered by many product of our schooling system. These is a very big problem which have murdered the passion for true knowledge acquisition in the country.

The youths should wake up to acquire education not schooling. I am not discouraging the youth from going to school as it remains the only way education can be ascertained. I am encouraging the youths to focus more on education(I.e knowledge acquisition) than schooling(of tunnel). The youths should realize that good grade in school is not good grade in education. From the saying, “beauty can take a woman to the palace but character determine her stay in the palace”. The same is also applied in educational perspective. Good grade may likely take you to any organisation but you need more than a grade to stay there.

There are many successful people in the world today who are either school drop out or never attend school. The secret behind it was that they may never attend school or drop out but they are never lazy. They are not an educated illiterates. They are educated in what makes them to be successful. They transform their education into innovation and creativity.

I am urging my fellow youths to define their focus. They should not just go to school but know the reason while in school. They should focus on education not schooling. Schooling can give you good grade but is the education in you that can give you power and success in the environment. The youths should look beyond classroom to excel in their area of study. Go to the school and focus on education.

DON’T ALLOW SCHOOL TO INTERFERE WITH YOUR EDUCATION!!!!!
