It is sad and disheartening that Nigerian government is showing no interest on issues related to environmental pollution. Environmental pollution, which is the contamination of the earth with dirt or harmful substances is dangerous and disastrous. Hence, it does not only affects the environment but also the living things found there.

Open burning of waste, leaving the environment untide, open defacation, neglect of people and transportation may be the basic causes of environmental pollution in Nigeria.

The consequences of environmental pollution is enormous, but it is more dangerous when people are not even aware of it. Lots of places, animals and living things in general end up being affected unknowingly. Environmental pollution may leads to animal extinction which happens when the habitat of a particular specie of animal gets destroyed by pollutants, it leads to them migrating to locations they cannot survive in and they end up becoming extinct.

Additionally, environmental pollution leads to an unhealthy environment which happens gradually If dirt is found littered everywhere for a long time, it will eventually rot and lead to a smelly and unhealthy environment, which in turn, may help in the spread of viruses.

Inspite of this, environmental pollution has its ways out which will only work if we all work together. These include raising awareness on the dangers of environmental pollution which means that more people should be made aware of environmental pollution so that everyone can take better care of the environment. Also, recycling should be advised. If people recycle thier trash, it will drastically reduce environmental pollution and gives room for a healthier environment.

Moreso, the provisions of trash cans and trash bags is advised. This will also help in curtailing the impact. Since, people now have somewhere to put their trash, and may not end up throwing it on the ground.
