Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, who won election on hopes that he would tackle Nigeria’s security challenges, has not been able to do much in addressing the growing cases of mass abductions from Nigerian schools.

Presidential candidate of Mass Action Joint Alliance (MAJA) in the 2019 election, Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies who had earlier on decried the abduction of Bethel Baptist Church High School students, Kaduna – a boarding school located at the outskirts of Kaduna, as a Baptist born and bred woman, says at times she wonders, “if there is any sitting president in Nigeria!”

“If there is, it is now very clear, directly visible, a well revealed and well-known fact, that it’s obvious and no more concealed honestly, that President Muhammadu Buhari is openly islamising and fulanizing Nigeria publicly as if it’s legitimate and legal to explicitly so do; and no more through the backdoor.” alludes Princess Davies.

“It happened that the bandits stormed the school around 1:00 am in the early hours of Monday 5th July, 2021. Only 28 of the abducted Baptist School students have now regained freedom in Kaduna July 25, 2021 following the reported deaths of the three girls that were said to be killed as they refused to be rapped. The rest are still in their custody.

The students were kidnapped in the Early hours of July 5, 2021, around 2am at the school premises along the Kaduna – Kachia Highway, Damishi, Chikun Local Government Area of the state.

They had spent twenty days in the kidnappers’ den.

Three of the students were reported to have escaped from the bandits, 118 students were still with the bandits with a ransom of N60million dangling on their heads. We later learnt that ransom and foodstuff are sill being negotiated and being paid.

Armed kidnappers in Nigeria are now said to have released 28 of the more than 120 students who were abducted at the beginning of July from the Bethel Baptist High School in the northern town of Damishi.

Church officials returned those children to their parents at the school on Sunday. But the Rev. Israel Akanji, president of the Baptist Convention, said more than 80 other children are still being held by the gunmen.

So far 34 children kidnapped from the school on July 5 have either been released or have escaped from the custody of the gunmen. It is unclear when the other children will be released. The gunmen have reportedly demanded 500,000 Naira (about $1,200) for each student.

Church and families are taking any actions they deem fit to secure their release. They are yet to hear from the federal and state government.

A spokesman for the Nigerian Police, Mohammed Jalige, said security forces and civilian defence forces were on a routine rescue patrol July 12 around the forests near the village of Tsohon Gaya when they found three exhausted kidnapped victims roaming in the bush. Two other students escaped on July 20 when they were ordered to fetch firewood from a nearby forest. Jalige said they were undergoing medical examinations.

Gunmen called bandits have carried out a spate of mass abductions from schools in northern Nigeria this year, mainly seeking ransoms.

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, who won election on hopes that he would tackle Nigeria’s security challenges, has not been able to do much in addressing the growing cases of mass abductions from Nigerian schools.

Adesanya-Davies says, WHAT A SHAME! Instead of beating about the bush and chasing after shadows, harassing and declaring Sunday Igboho wanted, and demonizing and pursuing Nnamdi Kanu; FG should rather wake up and bring all these notoriety of terrorists and bandits to book, while they as a matter of urgency capture the bandits and all such.

It’s unfortunate that Nigeria is already shattered in the hands of the BUHARI-APC led government. What a failed state!!!
