January 2012, Maj-Gen. Buhari, Adams Oshiomiole while in opposition accused Goodluck Jonathan administration of mismanagement and mal-administration of the downstream sector leading to multi-billion naira payment to marketers for oil subsidy. The subsidy was claimed to be an unexisting payment making minor individuals in the government multi-billionaire. All this led to 2012 occupy Nigeria led by Civil society organizations and organized labour unions ( NLC and TUC).

2020 despite mass retrenchment of workers in all sectors of the unions conjoined with the Covid-19 pandemic, Buhari administration felt the gift to complement the woes created by the administration is to put a hike of fuel to the table of the common man. Banditry, Boko Haram, kidnapping, Robbery, unemployment, and starvation have already been served as food to the common man on the street with no way to swallow the bolus.

The rationale to justify the increment of PMS could not be explained appropriately by the minister of petroleum and his state counterparts. The government should be compassionate when issuing regulations as the effect are more felt by the less privileged on the street. Nigerians have to resist the negativity of this regime at all costs like the Malians.
