As the much awaited 2023 elections commence today with the Presidential and National Assembly polls, former Senate Leader, Distinguished Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, SAN, has pleaded with Nigerians to conduct themselves peacefully to allow for a transparent, free and fair voting exercise across the country.

Ndoma-Egba, an erstwhile Chairman of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), made the plea in an interview.

The Secretary of the Campaign Planning Directorate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PPC) advised that people should not make themselves available for self-serving politicians to unleash violence or disrupt the elections in any way, stressing that everyone has a role to play to ensure a peaceful and credible exercise.

The ex-Senate Leader who had campaigned vigorously for the victory of the APC presidential standard-bearer, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other candidates of the party at the polls, said: “It is my fervent prayer that the elections will be peaceful. God is in control. My appeal to Nigerians is that as stakeholders, we have a role to play to ensure we have a smooth transition during and after the general elections. We need a peaceful election.

“We are over 209 million Nigerians. God forbid if we were to have a refugee crisis, what will happen to us. So we all have a stake. Go out there and cast your vote and peacefully return to your homes.

“Any politician who wants to engage you on anything untoward, tell him to bring his children to lead.”
