Haitian Politician reacts to Haiti seeking US Military Aid: “I hope it’s not another mistake”

On Saturday, Werley Nortreus, who is a Haitian politician, said that he hopes that Haiti will not make the same mistake again after the current Haitian government in power requests military aid from the USA. Where he says the American soldiers have been in the country for several years but they did not bring any results.

In the past few years in Haiti, there were scandals where UN soldiers were responsible for the cholera epidemic and were responsible for impregnating many women and children all over the country. Unfortunately, they have never been held accountable for these actions. Although they left the country, the Haitian government and human rights organizations were never able to seek justice for these actions.

“It is true that Haiti currently needs military aid to combat the insecurity. Still, I hope Haiti will not make the same mistake again after the failed mission of American soldiers from the United Nations in the past years. I think that Haiti must also ask for military aid from other countries, not only military aid coming from the USA. I think Russia can help, and I think the African Union can help. There are many other countries that can help. Right now, many human rights organizations have good evidence that the weapons that are causing a lot of panic in the country are from the United States. Including many other scandals caused by American UN soldiers from the United States. I really hope Haiti doesn’t make the same mistakes of the past few years”, says Werley Nortreus.

According to several sources, the Haitian government has requested military aid from the USA to combat insecurity. The USA stated that they are verifying the request to decide. Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world and has suffered a number of recent crises, most notably the assassination of its president, Jovenel Moïse, in July 2021 and a massive earthquake that left more than 2,200 people dead just a month later.

The Haitian politician Werley Nortreus said that there is great danger when a country does not have an army to defend it. He states that it is one of the reasons that they conspired to destroy the Haitian army so that UN soldiers could come to the country instead. He declares that it is another big mistake that Haiti has made since they let the Haitian army break.
