I Am Sorry, I Will Not Stop Celebrating Christmas; A Letter To The Anonymous Anti-Christmas Fellow -By Ezekiel Isah Datsok

Christmas

I’M SORRY….

I am sorry I won’t stop celebrating Christmas.

I KNOW you are an avid reader and researcher,so you have come across books that tell you how Christmas coincides with the “winter solstice” in the Roman calender and how that it has links with The Old Roman Paganism…

BUT January,February,March to December were also used in ancient Rome
In fact,January is from “Janus” the god of door and beginnings. Will using these months make you a pagan,No.

Because when you use January for example, you are simply making reference to a month of the year, not some Roman god.

In the same vein, we have contextualised and Christianize Christmas, when we celebrate it,our minds are not connected to Roman gods, our minds are connected to Jesus Christ. God looks at our hearts and intentions, not etymologies.

I KNOW you think that Christmas is not directly mentioned in the Bible,so it is unscriptural.
BUT so is Corporate Sunday Worship.
You should know that by now,the Christian faith is not all about the correctness of dates and rituals,or places,it’s about what is done, not about when and where it is done.

So the power of corporate Sunday worship for example is not about the correctness of the day,but about what happens in the worship service;the depth of worship that day,the piercing power of God’s word  and how it transforms people.

The same applies to Christmas, the power of Christmas is not in the correctness of it’s date or it’s etymology, its what we do that day. So,what I do on Christmas day is to celebrate the nativity; I remember and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. I also remind myself of his love for me and the power of his death and resurrection.

Ultimately,Christmas is meant to build and re-inforce my faith In Jesus Christ.

I WILL NOT STOP CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS
