If We Have A Hundred Legislators Like Senator Ajibola Bashiru, Nigeria Would Be Delivered From The Shackles Of Bad Leadership -By Adeyeye Eyitayo

Good leadership is the foundation upon a flourishing and peaceful society is built, unfortunately we live in an era when the bar of leadership has fallen beyond average and the society is left with no option than to grapple and scramble for quintessential leadership.

The trajectory of the Nigerian political space has been a mixture of the good and the bad. The dominance of the bad over the good, giving rise to overwhelming spate of bad leadership in the Nigerian political space today.

In spite of this, we have not been without a few ones who are undeniably seen as plenipotentiaries of good leadership and perfect representation of ideal public administrator. Their attendance in the  political space equates the voice of reason and are such catalysts of some of the good policies  that we enjoy today.

One of such rare breed is Dr. Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru popularly and famously known as “SRJ”.

Senator Ajibola Bashiru is a Nigerian political personage, an astute lawyer and a leading light in the contemporary democratic space.

SRJ had chalked up surfeit of experience in the academia before making a brave leap into arid terra firma of full time politics. He had a stint of lecturing experience at the Faculty of Law, Osun State University.

The political trajectory of Senator Ajibola Bashiru is such that is laced with grace, impact and motivation.

Upon his ingress into the political terrain, he became the Honorable Commissioner of Regional Integration and Special Duties under the administration of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, former Governor of Osun State. Under same administration, he became the  Honorable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Osun state. His tenure is widely regarded by all as one of the most successful in the annals of history of Osun state considering the indelible impact that trailed his administration.

Going forward, in 2019, having been voted by the majority, SRJ emerged as the Senator  representing Osun Central Senatorial District under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ever since he became a member of the upper chamber, he has lived up to becoming one of the most vocal, active and intelligent senators in Nigeria.

It was in this light he got appointed as the Chairman Senate Committee on Diaspora, Non-Governmental Organizations and Civil Societies. He also presently doubles as the Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, put differently; the amplifier of the voice of the Senate of Federal Republic of Nigeria (Senate Spokesperson) An appointment that became his as a result of his unrivaled intellectualism and towering brilliance. Needful to also mention that he is a member of existing several senate committees.

Crafting a befitting accolade for SRJ would be such a herculean task. Yes, because he looms large on every stratus and he is difficult to sufficiently describe.

What is not to admire about him?  His intelligent take on topical issues are noteworthy, his gracious and charismatic carriage and his unwavering  loyalty to his superiors.

Senator Ajibola Bashiru is no doubt a political asteroid. He blasts through every “obstacle-sphere”, leaving awe and daze in his wake. The synopsis of his political odyssey in a wrap is that of manifold grace of God, hard-work and capacity.

He is an enigma, and he will remain so even after he eventually retires from active politics.
