Insurgency: Why Negotiation?! -By Suleiman Lawan Kolomi

This is very irrational for one to think that the government should negotiate with them at the midst of their iniquities. Let them seek for the negotiation first when they are ready for it, but for now that we’re in the battle field, the only language they’ll understand is fire for fire.

Insurgency is an act of unleashing atrocities in order to inflict both physical, & psychological pain or kowtow unpleasant experience on an individual or group of people, propagating threat on the state for either economic, political or religious interest. Insurgency is a global quagmire that has consumed & continue to consume a lot of innocent lives, properties & economic growth of any affected community. It’s the major cause of economic bankruptcy which poses threat for global security & economic progress. No economy will thrive under the verge of insurgents.

Nigeria is one of the countries over the recent years that’s affected with so many insurgency movements like: Boko Haram terrorism, banditry, kidnapping militancy among others.

When dealing with security issues like banditry, kidnapping, militancy, terrorism & likes. The issue of negotiation at the midst of war can never be an option. How can the government negotiate with people that are not ready to ceasefire?

These insurgents on daily basis do kill, kidnap, rape & ransack communities, unleash mayhem on innocent commuters on highways; they prey on innocent citizenry whom didn’t in anyway ever did anything wrong to them.

What do they want?

Is that how they should channel their grievances by killing, raping, ransacking innocent communities?

This is very irrational for one to think that the government should negotiate with them at the midst of their iniquities. Let them seek for the negotiation first when they are ready for it, but for now that we’re in the battle field, the only language they’ll understand is fire for fire.

Let’s not sympathize with such people, they’re animals in human flesh & they must be treated in that language, until they come to their right senses. We’ve seen how BH destroyed communities, kill our people & destroy our economy.

I fear if care isn’t taken, those people will definitely start going round house by house in the cities killing people for money & then the people will say: the government has failed to protect us. God forbid!

We must use our senses at this very moment & discard them to their tombs. When they’re ready to come forward for a roundtable negotiation then it’ll be for their own benefits otherwise I see no reason at this moment we negotiate with these insurgents. Those are people feeding on the spectrum of gruesome killings. Are you waiting for them to kidnap & rape your mother or sister before you see from the perspective we see this nightmare? Those kidnapped, killed & raped also have their loved ones.

Let’s not politicize issues that has to do with security of our states.

  • May the Almighty bring lasting peace to our their country.
