JAMB Extends 2025 University Admission Deadline to November 17

JAMB extends the 2025 public university admissions deadline to November 17, citing a court order and new NUC-accredited programmes as reasons for the extension.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced an extension of the 2025 admissions deadline for all public universities in Nigeria from Friday, October 31, 2025, to Monday, November 17, 2025.

The decision was disclosed in a statement issued by JAMB’s Public Communication Adviser, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, who said the extension was necessitated by “emergent and compelling circumstances” that affected the ability of some institutions to complete their admissions on schedule.

JAMB recalled that during the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions held on July 18, 2025, chaired by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, the initial deadline of October 31 had been approved for public universities to conclude their admissions process.

The board explained that the timeline was designed to allow other tertiary institutions — including private universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and innovation enterprise institutions — sufficient time to finalise their own admissions before the national closing date of December 31, 2025.

However, JAMB said two major developments made the extension unavoidable.

“They include an appeal by the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) following disruptions caused by a court order halting the 2025/2026 admission process—an injunction that was only lifted on October 28, 2025—and the recent accreditation of 229 new academic programmes across 37 universities by the National Universities Commission (NUC) on October 29, 2025,” the statement read.

Dr. Benjamin added that the introduction of the new academic programmes required universities to adjust and reschedule their admission processes to accommodate the courses.

“In light of these developments, and to ensure fairness and inclusiveness, the Board hereby extends the deadline for the completion of 2025 public university admissions to Monday, November 17, 2025,” JAMB stated.

The board described the new deadline as final and binding, urging all public universities to comply strictly.

“While expressing appreciation to all institutions for their cooperation and effort toward meeting the initial target, the Board wishes to emphasise that this new deadline must be strictly adhered to,” Benjamin said.

He reaffirmed JAMB’s commitment to ensuring a transparent, credible, and seamless admission process that upholds the nation’s educational goals while respecting university autonomy.
