Jonathan, Oyebanji, and Other Dignitaries Pay Tribute to Late Ex-Minister Caleb Olubolade
Former President Jonathan, represented by his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, also paid tribute to Olubolade. Jonathan praised the late naval officer for his loyalty and gallantry, stating that Olubolade had made significant contributions to the development of Bayelsa State during his tenure and in all the other positions he held.
Prominent Nigerians gathered on Saturday to pay their final respects to the late former Minister of Police Affairs, Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade (retd.), who passed away at the age of 71.
Among those who attended the funeral were former President Goodluck Jonathan, Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, and Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla.
Olubolade, born in Ipoti Ekiti, Ekiti State, was a former military administrator of Bayelsa State. His funeral service was held at St John’s Military Church, Bonny Cantonment, Victoria Island, Lagos, where several dignitaries paid their respects. Notable attendees also included the first civilian Governor of Ekiti State, Adeniyi Adebayo, and former Deputy National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George.
Governor Oyebanji described the late Olubolade as “a gallant officer whose life of patriotism and selfless service to the development and growth of the country cannot be forgotten.” He called Olubolade one of Ekiti’s most illustrious sons, noting that his departure would be deeply felt by both the state and the country at large.
The governor highlighted Olubolade’s exemplary service to the Nigerian Armed Forces and his contributions to public service, his community, and to humanity as a whole.
“His meritorious service will forever remain an example for generations to come,” Oyebanji added, offering condolences to Olubolade’s family. “At a moment like this, there are so many questions we cannot answer. The only thing I commend to you is that you allow God to carry you, and He will see you through.”
