Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation Prerequisites for Good Living -By Thomas Kachollom Davou
Justice, peace, and integrity of creation are not optional they are prerequisites for good living. To enjoy a just and prosperous society, we must defend these values at all costs. The choice is ours: to build a world rooted in justice and peace or to watch it crumble under the weight of neglect and indifference. Let us choose life, unity, and sustainability for ourselves and generations yet unborn.
In today’s increasingly distressed world, the urgent call for justice, peace, and the integrity of creation cannot be overemphasized. These are not mere ideals they are essential foundations for human survival, development, and societal harmony. Without them, the vision of good living will remain a distant dream.
Justice ensures fairness and equity; peace promotes unity and safety; and integrity of creation demands responsible care for the environment. These three form the moral and social backbone of any progressive and sustainable society.
In the 1960s, the world grappled with revolutionary movements; in the 1970s, ecological crises became more prominent. Today, humanity faces a deeper crisis: the pursuit of justice and peace amidst widespread violence, economic injustice, terrorism, and environmental collapse.
As Nobel Laureate Wangari Maathai once said: We are called to assist the Earth to heal her wounds and in the process heal our own. We must stop threatening our life-support systems. The survival of our planet is closely tied to our own.
Today’s challenges include global terrorism, political instability, religious extremism, economic hardship, and environmental degradation. These are rooted in weak institutions, broken values, and lack of accountability. These issues cannot be solved without bold reform.
True peace must begin in the heart. It is not merely the absence of war but the presence of justice, respect, and understanding. Societal peace is only possible when individuals embrace tolerance, compassion, and integrity in their daily lives.
To sustain justice and peace, we need strong institutions, not just strong individuals. As Barack Obama noted during his visit to Ghana in 2009, strong institutions uphold laws, protect rights, and ensure justice is served fairly and promptly.
Human history and science affirm that we are social beings. We depend on each other for survival. No one is an island. The idea of “good living cannot be achieved in isolation it requires cooperation, compassion, and collective progress.
Modern transportation and communication such as air travel and the internet have made the world a global village. A person can have breakfast in Accra and dinner in Madrid. News from the remotest village reaches global audiences in seconds. Yet, despite this connectivity, many still suffer from division, conflict, and injustice.
Social media platforms and news networks like Al Jazeera, CNN, NTA, and Channels TV keep the world informed. This rapid flow of information fosters global awareness but also highlights the urgency to act on issues such as conflict, inequality, and climate change.
While communication and transport have brought people closer, they have also led to pollution, deforestation, and resource depletion. Human negligence and the I don’t care attitude have intensified the damage to the planet. Justice, peace, and sustainability are hindered by greed, corruption, and poor governance.
Both leaders and citizens must be committed to building a fair society. Good living will not be handed to us; it must be demanded and defended. It requires active participation in governance, civic responsibility, and a collective push for reform.
Religious and civil organizations must go beyond rhetoric. They must become agents of change advocating justice, encouraging environmental care, and promoting unity. Faith must inspire action, not division.
The future depends on how we educate and empower the youth. Schools and universities must teach values of peace, justice, and environmental consciousness. A well-informed and morally grounded generation is key to national transformation.
Justice, peace, and integrity of creation are not optional they are prerequisites for good living. To enjoy a just and prosperous society, we must defend these values at all costs. The choice is ours: to build a world rooted in justice and peace or to watch it crumble under the weight of neglect and indifference.
