Lagos State Government pledges improved pensioners’ welfare
He noted that a meeting of stakeholders, including the Head of Service, the Permanent Secretary of the Public Service Office, representatives of the ministry as well as the Director-General and representatives of the Lagos State Pensions Commission and the Chairman and members of the Nigeria Labour Congress in the state, was held on Monday to discuss the welfare of pensioners and their demands.
The Lagos State Government has promised to meet the demands of pensioners in the state as it relates to their welfare.
The Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Mr Afolabi Ayantayo, assured the pensioners who gathered on Tuesday at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, Alausa, to demonstrate against the non-implementation of their demands, that the government was doing everything possible to meet their demands.
The pensioners are demanding strict compliance with the constitutional provisions that pension should be increased every five years or whenever the salaries of workers are increased, whichever comes earlier.
They want a consequential adjustment on pension in accordance with consequential adjustment done in 2019; a living minimum wage of N50,000 for pensioners in Lagos State as well as payment of backlog of gratuities and pension arrears, among others.
Adetayo, who stressed that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was passionate about the welfare of pensioners in the state, assured them that their demands would be forwarded to the governor for consideration and approval as soon as he is back from his trip abroad.

He added, “We agreed to meet on November 17, 2023, when Mr Governor would have returned to get a briefing and proffer a solution to the requests made by the pensioners.”
