May Nigeria not happen to you -By Bakia T. Thomas

The pain these girls have gone through in life is not funny. First they lost their father, then their mother who was managing in a salon in Abuja. After her dead, the children were sent out of the room given to their mother by the salon.

Grace died under funny circumstances. She wasn’t on a bike or even on the highway. She came out of the house to buy tomatoes, a police officer reversing his car on high speed crushed Grace.

She was on the floor for more than 30minutes, the usual Nigerian lifestyle of “let her not die in my car” Kept Grace on the floor for over 45 minutes begging for her life.

Finally she was taken to Kubwa General Hospital. At kubwa General Hospital, no nurse or Doctor accepted to help a girl that was bleeding from everywhere.

They kept saying the sister who was with her should take her and go do a scan in that condition, before they will do anything.

She was abandoned in front of the emergency unit for another 1hour.

Finally they decided to refer her to Maitama General Hospital. When they arrived Maitama General Hospital, she was examined at the emergency section and they declared her dead and was taken to the mortuary.

At the mortuary, the attendant saw her shake her fingers, he called the attention of the sister with her and said this girl is still alive.

That was the moment they rushed her back to the emergency ward and started trying to defibrillate her but it was late.

Grace died not because it was her time but because no sector in Nigeria is working, none.

The worst is the health sector.

Death cheated me because all these happened in my absence. I will never take any serious case to a government hospital because it means you don’t want the person alive anymore.

It’s a shame!

The last girl raped and ended up with a child who later lost one eye before I met them and decided to rent a place for them to live.

Grace was the most calm person amongst them, she was my daughter. May her soul rest in peace.
