Niger State: The Need For Micro Zoning Of Governorship Position for 2023 -By Shariff M.M Al-hassan

I believe the suggestion I am about to give out may negatively be seen by some as biased suggestion. But Allah knows I am being objective for the overall smooth growth and development of the Zone. The way things are going does not seem to be on the positive side and the possibility of chaos in the near future is inevitable which may not be palatable for both the two political parties in the state, that is the APC and the PDP and the succession process of the government of the day. 

Last week I suggested the need for Nupe Conference but so far the response I got came from only two prominent Nupe personalities who expressed  their intentions to assist in their own small way but a big conference like this requires greater assistance. I felt this is not enough going by the responses I got so far. I therefore feel I should discard this idea for another less expensive idea. I thank these Nupe personalities greatly.

It is now settled that APC has zoned the Governorship position to Zone A. We have seen the number of Aspirants so far who have expressed interest. I believe even PDP too will soonest follow the same way. In the event where ten or more come from the APC how than do we comprehend this development. We should avoid throwing away both the baby and the birth water. It therefore becomes imperative to come out with another simple suggestion. This I hope Zone  A political gladiators and Stakeholders would all come together and agree to this suggestion. Thereafter, before we move to the application of the provisions of section 87 (1) and (2) of the Electoral Act 2010 ( As Amended) for the general elections.

THE SUGGESTIONS 

It is a fact that we have three Emirates as Agaie, Bida and Lapai respectively with many districts. So far as we have seen from the APC Governorship Aspirants,they cut across these three Emirates. But it is only one person that is going to emerge. The silent question is how are we going to do the selection among all these ten or more Aspirants. 

This is the reason why I have decided to come out with this simple, clean and everlasting selection process at micro zoning level before the actual selection process as laid down in section 87(1) and (2) of the Electoral Act 2010.This process is humane and simple.

Therefore let the people of Zone A and the Governorship Aspirants in particular exercise patience,perseverance and hope and should respect these suggestions:

i- Let good people of Zone A and the Aspirants agree to allow Governorship Aspirant to come from Bida Emirate in 2023.
ii- Thereafter in the next dispensation after Bida might have completed her circle shift to Agaie Emirate to produce the Governor for another round.
iii- While Lapai Emirate to take over after Agaie’s round to produce the Governor.

This micro system of zoning be observed and taken as a standard methodology for the Zone.

However, where there are more than two Governorship Aspirants in the particular Emirate. A mini election can be either done informally or formally to have the most populous Aspirant.

I believe if we can agree and respect this method without attaching any meaning to it. The 2023 emergence of Zone A Governorship Aspirant will be very clean,easy and rancour free and it will keep the party intact.
