The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has invited 286,697 applicants to participate in a computer-based test (CBT) for 3,927 vacancies across the Superintendent, Inspectorate, and Customs Assistant cadres.

The recruitment drive, first advertised on December 27, 2024, attracted 573,523 applications in its initial phase.

“After a rigorous documentary scrutiny, 286,697 candidates were invited to proceed to the next phase,” the Service announced in a statement signed by its National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, on Wednesday via its official X account.

The second stage of the exercise is scheduled to run from September 14 to 21, 2025, and will be conducted entirely online through a CBT platform.

Maiwada explained that candidates can take the test from any location with stable internet access, provided they use a laptop or desktop computer with a webcam and full-screen display, noting that the platform is not mobile-phone enabled.

He added that a facial-verification check will be carried out at login, urging candidates to appear neatly to avoid recognition issues.

The NCS also cautioned that the CBT platform is sensitive to noise and movement. Excessive body movement, whispering, or background distractions could trigger an automatic logout.

“Candidates are advised to avoid switching between windows during the test, as such actions will be flagged as malpractice and may lead to disqualification,” the Service warned.

To help applicants familiarise themselves with the system, the NCS will conduct a mandatory pre-test exercise two days before the main CBT. Shortlisted candidates will receive two separate links—one for the pre-test and another for the exam itself.

The Service further clarified that those applying for the Superintendent Cadre (Level 8) will undergo an additional CBT in a subsequent phase, a requirement that does not apply to the Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres.

Reaffirming its stance, the NCS stressed that the recruitment process remains strictly merit-based, and urged applicants to rely solely on its official communication channels for updates.
