Nigeria: Democracy Or Mediocrity -By Anase Momoh
Even after 20 or more solid years of being ruled by this so-called democrats, our decision-making processes has been jeopardized – triggered by communal, ethnic and religious upheaval; a pre-launched idea that has been a major threat to the nation

One nation bound in freedom? Freedom?
I question myself at every turn of events trying to revitalize the whole strength in me just to get a profound effect and or impact the above excerpt has had over the years in Nigeria’s economy. The truth is between consolidation and legitimacy, Nigeria’s stance in the area of balance and global relevance is opaque; so cloudy.
The overall expansion in political terms and the conduct of credible franchise has been personalised and adulterated; mixed with sharp disparity and disgust that has rendered our status quo as a nation indecorous. This registered profiling has dampened our relationship with so many European countries. Hence, we’re seen and categorised as ‘a shit hole nation’. Can you imagine? So unwholesome.
In the last two decades or more, the state of transition from the military regime to the civil marginal progress has changed nothing. Yet, we can raise our heads up high at every sight of June 12 and forever find it satisfying to celebrate democracy. Really?
Even after 20 or more solid years of being ruled by this so-called democrats, our decision-making processes has been jeopardized – triggered by communal, ethnic and religious upheaval; a pre-launched idea that has been a major threat to the nation. Aside corruption, banditary and terrorism, Nigeria is faced with overwhelming challenges that has crippled our audacity to question and stand firm against all odds to prosecute offenders who go against the law; since the law is supreme and nobody is above the law.
Do we even have a law? Like a tenable one that renders everyone accountable to whatever crime they’ve committed and consequently ‘whoops their asses’. Is our supposed written constitution valid or by chance it’s just a mere document or penned journal just to fulfil all righteousness.
Where did we go wrong? How did we get this messy and chaotic? Our leaders? Our choices? Can someone answer the question already? I’m afraid no one would stand up to fully solve this ancient yet parallel riddles – one that has eaten deep into our quest for true justice and dialectical strategy. No one would single handedly change our uncustomary stigma and open a new chapter for a sustained administration – one without guile, plain and swift.
Today, I join my voice with millions of Nigerians here and in diaspora that, the industrial evolution of a nation is a product of true democracy; one sourced from integrity and sound leadership and channelled towards real change and outright development to build a nation where PEACE AND JUSTICE SHALL REIGN.
