Nigeria Will Defend Its Sovereignty Against Any Threat — Fani-Kayode Warns Trump
Femi Fani-Kayode blasts Donald Trump’s threat of military action, vowing Nigeria will defend its sovereignty and urging unity, vigilance, and renewed patriotism amid U.S. tensions.
Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has issued a strong response to remarks by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who allegedly threatened possible military action against Nigeria. Fani-Kayode asserted that Nigeria will defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity against any form of external aggression.
In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, the outspoken politician condemned Trump’s comments as “provocative and unjustified,” urging Nigerian leaders and citizens to respond with unity, vigilance, and strategic caution.
“The crisis should serve as a wake-up call for our leaders and citizens to strengthen national resolve,” Fani-Kayode wrote. “Any foreign action framed as protecting one community could worsen internal divisions.”
He warned that foreign powers often misrepresent Nigeria’s internal challenges while ignoring their own roles in global instability, describing such double standards as dangerous and potentially destabilizing.
According to Fani-Kayode, Nigeria must not depend on diplomatic reassurances from foreign nations, as changes in U.S. domestic politics could alter its stance toward Africa. He advised Nigerian authorities to prepare for all eventualities and protect national interests with strategic foresight.
He also cited a correspondent’s reaction describing Trump’s remarks as “childish and provocative,” stressing that Nigerians must stand firm and reject intimidation from any external power.
Fani-Kayode further urged citizens to maintain national dignity, unity, and resilience amid growing international scrutiny, adding that no country should dictate Nigeria’s domestic affairs or use religion as a pretext for intervention.
“We must not allow international pressures to dictate our domestic agenda,” he said. “This is a time for sober reflection and renewed patriotism as we confront our challenges with courage and faith.”
His comments follow heightened diplomatic tension after U.S. officials raised concerns about alleged attacks on religious communities in Nigeria — a claim Nigerian authorities and scholars have repeatedly denied.
