No Good Deed Goes Unrewarded -By Seun Elere

A genuine act of kindness doesn’t discriminate whether black or white, it is God-based and love-centred. When you operate in this realm, you definitely know your tomorrow because those that give to the ‘poor’ lend unto the Lord. The word poor connotes need.

Most of the times, the difference between you and that person you criticize is opportunity. Where you are now, how are you faring? You probably would be worst or exhibit same traits if in that same position as the person you now criticize.

Be intentionally good and kind to others and it would become your life style eventually. The truth is no acts of kindness goes unrewarded. It is a misconception to think that people pay you evil for good. You are only guilty of expecting good from the same ‘people’ you are kind to forgetting the fact that God is the rewarder of all deeds. Rom 2:6,10.

An act of kindness is not a contract with the person you are kind to, it is with God. You will almost certainly miss the reward if you do good with the intention of expecting same back from the beneficiary. If you are kind with the ‘no one knows tomorrow’ mentality, you miss the reward. This mindset limits you mostly to people you know because you anticipate they would reciprocate in future. A genuine act of kindness doesn’t discriminate whether black or white, it is God-based and love-centred. When you operate in this realm, you definitely know your tomorrow because those that give to the ‘poor’ lend unto the Lord. The word poor connotes need.

I will end with this story:
Based on personal experience, I don’t remove my battery unless it is due for change. I had a jump-start cable in the car in case of any emergency. One day, my wife told me that the dashboard lights of the car had gone off and we invited an electrician to have a look. He said we have to change a board or some sensors and that the board wasn’t readily available but I scheduled to get back to him by weekend. During that same week, my wife drove to our children’s school to pick them up and the school bus, already loaded with other children, wouldn’t start. There was no one else in the school with a car but my wife and she knew that we don’t remove our battery for any reason. According to her, they tried the jump-start cord severally but the bus wouldnt start. She knew I would probably not be happy about it but she has no other option than to allow the bus driver remove her car battery. She allowed it and this was done successfully with no issue at all. Now, on her way home, she realized that all the dashboard lights that were not working started working but she decided to test it out the following day before telling me. She drove the following day and the lights were perfect again and ever since then, there was no need to change any board or sensor.

The act of kindness is not quid pro quo, it is a selfless act. Only when you do it selflessly would you be rewarded for it.

Be kind!
