The NIGERIAN SUPREME COUNCIL FOR ECCLESIASTICAL AFFAIRS (NSCEA) ACCORDING TO BISHOP PROFESSOR FUNMILAYO ADESANYA-DAVIES, SECRETARY GENERAL, ELDER’S COUNCIL, NSCEA JOINTLY PRESENTS AND PUBLISHES: COMMUNIQUÉ ISSUED AT THE END OF THE CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (CAN) NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COUNCIL (NEC) MEETING HELD AT THE IMO STATE CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA SECRETARIAT OWERRI ON 23TH -25TH FEBRUARY, 2022.
The Christian Association of Nigeria National Executive Council (NEC) meeting was held in Imo State’s Christian Association of Nigeria Secretariat Owerri from 23rd – 25th February, 2022.
The meeting had in attendance the President of Christian Association of Nigeria, His Eminence Dr Samson Supo Ayokunle, the National Officers, bloc leaders, Zonal Chairmen, State Chairmen and delegates from the five blocs of CAN.
The meeting after thorough deliberations resolves as follow:
1. Commends the Governor of Imo State, His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma, Government and people of Imo State for providing the Christian body with the enabling environment to host the first quarter NEC meeting in the State.
2. Commends the Imo State CAN leadership and members for providing the venue, resources and facilities for the meeting to be held under serene environment.
3. Appreciates specially the delegation of Christian leaders who attended the meeting from South Africa for their commitment to the growth of the Church in Nigeria and where they are based.
4. Appreciates the Christians and citizens of Imo State for giving peace a chance after the uprising in the state and thank the security agencies and stakeholders for bringing the skirmishes to an end.
5. Thanks the government at all levels for their efforts at making Nigeria better for citizens. But the Association is however concerned over the suffering of Nigerians as a result of hyper-inflation in the land and widespread insecurity. NEC calls on those in authority at all levels of government to do everything within their powers, especially the Federal Government to bring down inflation in the nation and the bloodletting, kidnapping and murder that occur virtually everyday.
6. Calls on all Nigerians to be well prepared for the forth-coming National Election by registering en-mass to vote and vote for credible individuals who would serve the people and our nation to experience growth, peace and prosperity.
7. Urges Nigerians to be wary and rise against any political party that is nursing the ambition of providing a Muslim- Muslim and Christian – Christian Presidential ticket so as to douse religious tension and embrace religious inclusion in our political actions in 2023.
8. Calls on Christians all over the nation to be calm and pray for those handling the abnormalities in CAMA that was signed to law by the President of the country in 2021.
9. Calls on those in Nollywood, African Magic and Television Broadcast and other media industry to discourage obscene pictures and promotion of rituals killings in their activities. These, by and large appear to be contributing to the violence in the land, most especially, ritual killing.
10. Commends the CAN President, His Eminence Dr Samson Ayokunle for providing credible leadership for the association at the most trying moments; the President is specially commended for the passage of the Association’s Constitution that provides for a more cohesive and seamless transition from one bloc to the other, the handling of obnoxious laws against the Church and for speaking against the ills in the country without fear or compromise.
11. Urges Christians to pray for smooth leadership transition in CAN that has started and will be concluded in July 2022.
12. Calls on the Christians leaders and churches to unite regardless of denominations and doctrinal difference. Whether your denomination is the one providing leadership now or not, unite with those who are there now to move the Association forward as your own time will come later.
13. Calls on the denominational leaders to encourage their children going for National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) to be willing to fellowship with the Nigerian Christian Corpers Fellowship (NCCF) and the Catholic Corpers Fellowship(as the case may be) for the sake of the unity of the church and spiritual cross fertilization regardless of denominational differences. These are the only two Christian bodies allowed to operate at NYSC camps by the government.
14. Calls on political parties, aspirants and electoral body to do everything to avoid crisis that would endanger the lives of put innocent Nigerians during electioneering campaigns and election proper. Your ambition does not worth endangering the soul of any Nigerian.
15. Prays for the peace of Nigeria and a successful 2023 National Elections.
Signed
His Eminence Dr Samson Supo Ayokunle
President
