Phone snatching

The way phone snatchers are comfortably operating in metropolitan city of Kano is alarming, and it pose a seriously threat to the residents and visitors alike. Sometimes they are operating as if there is no existence of security personnel in the city. They rob people in the day-light and more so in the night, the trend has been going on for a quite long period of time, this phenomenon claimed the life of so many people a lot of them were professionals in different fields of human endeavor. Just of recent a staff of National Museum and Monument Mal Umar by name loss his life in the hand of those hoodlums. The Kano state is one of the state in the federation that enjoys relative peaceful co-existence for a quite long period of time but the recent upsurge and influx of the phone-snatchers in the city abrogate the peace. Residence and the visitors are moving with extreme fear of attack by the criminals. Although, the problem is widespread across the metropolitan but there are more volatile areas that passing through those areas with a smart phone is tantamount to a suicide. Dan’agudi, Fagge, B.U.K road, Janbulo and airport road are areas where those criminals operate sometimes freely, and you can easily be attack at any time, be it in daylight or in the night. The attackers usually uses sharp objects on their victims on sighting smart phone with them, they will ask them to capitulate their phone to them if you refuse to yield for their demands they can attack you with such dangerous weapons, a lot of people lost their lives through that ugly way.

The responsibility of protecting the life and properties is solely in the hands of government at all level. Does the concerned authority failed on that mandate? The trend if not address as soon as possible it will metamorphosed into something frightening which may preclude smooth running of the business, and the visitors may not feel comfortable to visit the city for commercial purposes and it will affect the commercial activities of the city.

How this problems can be address? The attackers are coming out both in the daylight and night to attack people fearlessly, one should ask this question; where are security personnel? How their operation used to be? Definitely, to address this problem, all hands must be on deck, security personnel must be on alert and responded promptly on the distress calls by the resident.

People sometimes contribute to this problem by their nonchalant attitude to chase away the criminals whenever they are operation. They are human beings like every other and they want to live therefore people should always be bold enough to use whatever they have to chase them away. An instance was seen when the attackers converge at an adjacent to abattoir to attack the people the people in the area chased them away, since then they liberate themselves from their atrocities henceforth they made no attempt to attack people in that area.

The state should also install CCTV cameras across the metropolitan, this will enable the security personnel to pursue them to a point of arrest.
