Police Deputy Commissioner, Gbolahan Olugbemi commits suicide

Gbolahan Olugbemi, a Deputy Commissioner of Police with the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department (FCIID), allegedly committed suicide in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

The DCP, who had worked as an adviser to former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, was reportedly found dead in his apartment, with a noose around his neck dangling.

Though a comprehensive investigation is yet to be conducted to determine the reason of his death, a source told Vanguard that it appears to be suicide.

The dead DCP Gbolahan Olugbemi was claimed to have returned home for Easter and landed at his home on Petros Academy Street in the Federal Low Cost Area without anyone accompanying him.

The dead officer, who is believed to be over the age of 50, served as the late Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala’s Aide de Camp during his eleven-month tenure from 2006 to 2007.

Vanguard learned that his residence had been sealed off, and sympathisers stood in clusters to mourn the valiant officer’s untimely death.

One of his neighbours said, “Sometimes, he came home with police security. In fact l saw him recently driving personally into his beautiful mansion.”

“It’s only him we see around. His family is not usually seen with him.”

The source further disclosed that the man had been battling with depression for quite a long time.

Due to his effective policing, he was was recommended for commendation for his handling of the ENDSARS protests in 2020.

Before his death, Olugbemi had served as Divisional Police Officer in Ilupeju Area Commander in Ajah, and was Personal Assistant to two former Commissioners of Police in Lagos State.

Police Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Command, SP Adewale Osifeso, refused to speak to the media, said he is busy with his boss.
