Police inspector sentenced to death in Delta for murder

The defendant was allegedly a member of the Police Patrol squad that carried out the stop and search operation, according to the prosecution, which was led by Ministry of Justice Director E.H. Edoema.

Police Inspector Ubi Ebri was found guilty of murder by a Delta State High Court in Asaba and given the death penalty.

One Mr. Ibeh Onyeka, a telephone repairer and vendor, was allegedly killed by the police inspector on April 5, 2023, when he was performing a stop and search operation along the Ugbolu Asaba Road in the state capital.

Remember how the tragedy sent young people into the streets to protest the killing, causing mayhem throughout the city?

The defendant was allegedly a member of the Police Patrol squad that carried out the stop and search operation, according to the prosecution, which was led by Ministry of Justice Director E.H. Edoema.

The deceased and his wife were said to be driving from Ugbolu to Asaba when they were flagged down by the police team for search.

The defendant was said to have opened fire on the vehicle leaving the deceased dead after he was hit on the head by bullets.

The wife of the deceased who sat in the front seat with him was however, unhurt.
The Court, presided over by Justice C. D Diai convicted and sentenced defendant to death.
