President Muhammadu Buhari, The Awaiting Hero -By Mohammed Aliyu Baba

Jonathan and Buhari

The political system all over the world is structured in such a way that the system belongs to no man. The political actors and their allies are through the electoral system subjected to act like a team of players who have a specified duration to do the needful during their game or lose their dignity.

Thus, the political climate also changed along with the changes of the system in which Nigeria is not an exception.

The West African country has been ruled by numbers of administrations and has been tussling in every regime in her quest to get things right in terms of good governance and delivery of dividend of democracy to Nigerians. Meanwhile, the changing of government after elections in four to eight years could only be seen and felt as transiting from frypan to fire due to what many analysts and ordinary Nigerians like me could termed as super corrupt practices perpetrated by those entrusted with the country’s leadership and resources management.

People traced this cankerworm to have gained ground during the second republic after the country returned to civilian rule between 1976 and 1983. Ever since, the corruption keeps escalating with its menace biting harder on the lives of (particularly) ordinary Nigerians.

Hence, it has now been the game of upbraid upon the Chief Executive of every administration in Nigeria. Every serving government in Nigeria since the return of democracy ends up tainted worse than their predecessor. This script is being played out at federal, state and even local governments in Nigeria.

For instance, much censured remarks were heard of Obasanjo’s administration, including the subsequents particularly the Jonathan’s which led to a drastic change of government that gave birth to Buhari’s current administration in 2015.

Like his predecessors, Baba Buhari of all people in 2015 has also started taking his share of vituperates from the world and his wife which is even worse than the person he succeeded. The worrisome insecurity and pervasive corrupt practices that caused his predecessor to lose his second term bid are now skyrocketing; accompanied by impoverished households of particularly common men all across the country.

But guess what? He is still an awaiting hero because despite the wrangling issues that characterized the administration of his predecessor, the man is seen and celebrated today as a hero. In fact, some people are clamouring for his return to power.

So, Nigerians should expect worse from the next yet unidentified cabals that will camouflage as political saints with mandates of heaven just to be elected in 2023 before turning back to their callousness. Because from all indications, the unfortunate circumstances that characterize the Nigeria state of governance seemed to be like the slough of despond that has come to stay indefinitely.
