Sen. Ningi’s Remarkable First Quarter: A Record Of Achievements In Bauchi Central -By Adamu Yalwa Gabi

It was the great English playwright William Shakespeare who said “some people are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them”. And then there are the very few whose greatness encompasses all three, Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi being one of such.

Among the 109 Senators, Senator Ningi was the first to swing into action a few minutes after the inauguration of the 10th NASS on Tuesday 13th June 2023 by strengthening his legislative duties beyond the shores of his immediate constituency, the Bauchi Central Senatorial district by raising a motion on an abandoned Federal road project that has turned to a death trap for commuters within the Niger Delta region, the East-West road spanning across the six states of Niger Delta where the red chamber unanimously set up a seven man committee led by Sen. Ningi who is the Chairman Northern Senators Forum for a fact finding mission.

Leveraging on the issue of National security without which no meaningful development could be achieved,the pro PDP Colossus that has never dreamt of cross carpeting to any other party compared to all his contemporaries in the Bauchi state political landscape deserves a standing ovation for  moving another motion on the urgent need for the parliament to summon all the Service Chiefs,Inspector General of Police and the National Security Adviser to discuss on matters arising especially in the Northern region despite the huge resources allocated by the FG to curtail the sad security situation.

For the sake of making a reference, using the formalistic approach in judging the action taken by the country’s first and former president under the party, Olusegun Obasanjo who from the prison yard became a replica of Nelson Mandela but out of aggression tore his membership card prior to the 2015 general election, the mystery seen by the global community as a political TABOO hard to escape from.

X-raying the performance of the Chairman Senate Committee on National Identity Management Commission and National Population Commission so far, so good in terms of providing dividends of democracy to his constituents. In less than four months, no fewer than 10 cars with 1 commercial vehicle plus tipper and a number of motorcycles have been procured and distributed to some selected individuals as a minor empowerment programme to boost their socio- economic status.

Others include financial assistance of one million naira each to two patients on the sick bed and five hundred thousand naira to each of the critical stakeholders whose roles in ensuring victory of the lawmaker with mastery on the legislative proceedings in the last general elections weighed a higher kilo when placed on the scale of preference. Renovation of mosque in Nasaru ward and rehabilitation of some rural access roads in five communities surrounding Sumo wild life park in Ganjuwa LGA which is the second most famous tourist site after Yankari Game Reserve in the State.

Coming down to security threats on the lives of the citizenry due to increasing spate of attacks by bandits in the Lame Burra forest which began as a nightmare where a village head was recently abducted, the legislator did all within his powers to rid the area of criminal elements by investing huge resources to beef up security apparatus in protecting lives and properties of the common man. Moreover, in an effort to brighten the future of the next generation, plans have reached advanced stages to identify some existing vacancies with the aim of fixing the youths into various MDA’s.

On the issue of current economic predicament amid serious hunger ravaging the average Nigerian which had indeed thrown households into an untold hardships following the removal of fuel subsidy by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, trucks fully loaded with palliatives to include food items such as rice, spaghetti, groundnut oil, textile materials, mats and children wears have been donated to the beneficiaries; the timely gesture which is still generating positive reactions has been the topic of discuss in all joints attended by both young and the old as provided by the pragmatic politician who sleeps with two eyes open on the plight of his electorates.

The said items meant to cushion the effect of the Federal Government policy as distributed across the ninety six electoral wards of Ningi, Warji Darazo, Ganjuwa, Misau and Dambam Local  Government Areas of the Senatorial zone were specifically targeted to ameliorate the sufferings faced by supporters of the former Deputy Senate Leader at such a trying moment.

A question that continues to await ratification and answer in the public domain is whether or not the pragmatic politician will succumb to the second clarion call the masses are yearning for, to taste the pudding in the executive arm of Government by changing the negative narratives on the power tussle which remains lopsided to a single region for 24 years now in a bid to attain the highest level of Bauchi State political responsibility come 2027. Goldfish they say have no hiding place and Sen. Ningi is one that the good people of Bauchi are waiting, praying and hoping for.
