State Of The Nation: The Road To Afghanistan -By Richard Odusanya

Why are they pursuing the Bandits. They should lock down Afaka community until they provide the Bandits. That is their modus operandi in Southern Nigeria. The military did it in Ohafia, Abia state and some communities in Bayelsa. So, why are they investigating rather than invade the community and hold them hostage? It does appear they are deploying different strategy for each region.

The Nigeria we have today is a horror-show where peace and justice are strangers. Words like incompetent, slow poke, famine, disaster, shocking, tragedy, laxity, thoughtlessness, plundering of resources and squandering of riches have become synonymous with the current administration headed by Maj Gen Muhammadu Buhari RTD. This is the sad realities of our beloved country, Nigeria.

It is so unfortunate and traumatic experience for many of our compatriots across board, who were hoping for a change for the better. Regrettably, it is the other way round, a government that is supposed to provide basic amenities and protection to its citizens but they have apparently failed to deliver and perform the most important responsibility, which would have enable the citizens to also benefits from good governance and purposeful leadership.

Things are falling apart, the center cannot hold; NIGERIANS are going through excruciating pain, agony and unimaginable magnitude of deprivation. The hapless citizens are the victims of greed, political games, suppression, oppression and threat to life. It’s not an exaggeration to say that some of us get most of our daily physical therapy and exercise these days shaking our heads in disbelief at the nation’s woes.

The recent attack by bandits at the Nigerian Defence Academy, Afaka in Kaduna, which resulted in the killings of military personnels and abduction of another officer in person of, Major Christopher Datong whom was allegedly murdered is an aberration. It’s unfortunate for such an attack to have taken place in a fortified military environment like the Nigerian Defense Academy (NDA).

Insider or no insider, it is completely an aberration, as one is still trying to fathom how bandits (terrorists) can boldly and successfully enter a well fortified military environment, killed serving military officers and kidnapped a Major. We hope that this is not a message for us to anticipate what happened recently in Afghanistan.

At this juncture, it’s pertinent to wrap up that any Nigerian who think his or her security is guaranteed is living in a fool’s paradise. We don’t have any iota of security in this country. Maybe, it is about that time the government amend the gun laws and allow us protect ourselves, as canvased recently by some governors and previously by our indefatigable elder statesman Gen T.Y. Danjuma.

Our common enemy is this current political structure that the so-called elites are protecting and projecting to further whatever ethnic, religious and monetary interests they have. The truth is that Nigeria has gone to the dogs under the watch of the current political gladiators.

The nation should be on alert and be preparing for the doomsdays ahead. Without doubt at the rate it is going, we may be having an Afghanistan experience here. Some people are up to something in Nigeria, which is to conquer the nation and take over and then declare Nigeria a nation similar to the event in Afghanistan and everyone will be forced to live according to their laws or die.

It was alleged that the Boko Haram members who claimed to have repented are being reintegrated into the system with even much more stronger training, if this is true, then it is obviously the same pattern in Afghanistan, today they have overrun the country and the Talibans are now in charge.

It has also been reported that strange elements arrived in the southern part packed full trailers into some of the cities day and night. Bandits have taken over lands and installed cows as owners of the lands. Southerners are scared even seeing their northern Brothers coming into the cities and villages everyday. Trust is lost. We are told one thing and they do the other.

A whole Defence Academy that we thought is the most secured place in the country after the Aso villa security was breached, invaded and some officers of Christian stock killed without any arrest till this moment.

This may be part of the reasons why some of our citizens are thinking that, these bandits are fully government sponsored. If it happened in the south they will be releasing statements and same time carrying out genocide concurrently. How come the Governor of Kaduna State has gone into ghost mode?

We have been labeled different names by the international community. Our youths are willing to get away through Libya than before. We have become an endangered species in our own country. Home is wherever peace is and as Nigerians we are not safe here or elsewhere.

Even the children of those whom have impoverished the very fabrics of our existence are abroad. They arrange very exclusive and expensive weddings and still tell the hapless citizens not to enjoy their own in their own little way. The verdict of history, verdict of posterity and the judgment of God Almighty may be very harsh with those that ought to do the needful but using the blood of innocent Nigerians to play Politics.
