Still On Abba Kyari Crime Fighting And The Need To Curtail Disturbing Incidences Of Crime In The Country (11) -By Hajia Hadiza Mohammed

There is a lot of interest nationwide in the Abba Kyari’s case. Pressure is mounting in different quarters not just for his release but for reinstatement. Interestingly nobody is mentioning tribe or religion in the case. The focus has been on his excellent track record of achievement, his dedication to duty and the need to rescue Nigeria from the present security quagmire. Some also alluded that he was a victim of conspiracy and set-up and as such should be pardoned.

A group of concerned Nigerians has earlier in the month of January appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and release DCP Abba Kyari so as to help in tackling the current nagging security challenges in the country. The appeal is contained in a statement signed by the National Coordinator of the group, Segun Rotimi, Deputy National Coordinator, Musa Shehu and the National Secretary, Nnamdi Sylvester in Abuja. And as expected, the statement of the group has been generating comments from the social media. One commentator screamed: “Please, please Kyari. Bandits may have a hand in the detention of this man because he gave them sleepless nights.”

Another, one Sale Ali Yobe opined, “He (Kyari), is the hero of this country. Please Sir, (Kabiyesi), free Abba Kyari; he is the hero in the Nigeria Police Force…” One Ukkyman High has this to say, “I support the move to return Abba Kyari back to his duty post. We can’t afford to kill our best.” Suleiman Mohammed put his succinctly thus, “we need the man, (Abba Kyari) please!” Sani Kachiya exclaimed, “Wow!

That’s so nice, great and wonderful. If that happens, we are spot for that, may Allah grant it so.” Also one Olawale Aregbesola has this to say: “yes, we need the man o!” Hassana Yusuf said: “good one!” Isah Ibrahim asserts more positively thusly, “release him tomorrow morning and see the bandits will run away immediately from Nigeria.” Again, Bala Ibrahim called for his immediate release saying that Abba Kyari is not just a hero in Nigeria that his heroic deeds are acknowledged worldwide and that even the almighty Americans recognized him.

One Umar Abubakar in a trending video message said that he wished to highlight the issue of the unjust detention of the DCP Abba Kyari, a dedicated and vibrant police officer. “DCP Abba Kyari has been actively involved in the tireless fight against banditry and insecurity in our beloved country.” He observes ruefully that it is disheartening to know that Abba Kyari who fought insecurity at the risk of his life has been unlawfully kept in confinement for more than two years now while the criminal elements are having a free reign in the country. He believes that it will require executive discretion and intervention to grant the super cop freedom. He stated rightly that: “I believe that it is crucial for us to bring this critical issue to the attention of Tinubu and Kashim administration.” By so doing, he believes that we can collectively advocate for justice and ensure that the DCP Abba Kyari is granted the freedom that he rightly deserves. Let us unite bury our differences against the enemies of our nation and support the call for his release and reinstatement to his rightful position. For the security of the nation, we have to lend our support to spread the awareness about this pressing matter. Together we can make the difference and secure our country

In another development, in a TVC commentaries in the wake of the recent Abuja kidnap cases in Abuja one informed analyst told us that Abba Kyari has given us the template for tackling the apparent intractable insecurity problems bedeviling the nation stating that Abba Kyari used his personal resources to import his own devices with which he tracked down bandits and kidnappers. The commentator believes that the nation and other security operatives can learn from the Kyari’s proactive approach to crime fighting.

There is also a group known as the Free Abba Kyari Movement committed to sensitizing the people on the need to release the incarcerated Super cop. The group said it is going to mobilize one million signatures for the release of Abba Kyari. There is also another group known as “I Stand with Abba Kyari. In the next part of this series, I will try to highlight the responses from these other groups. I will also report on what the Human Rights Radio program on the Abba Kyari case.

Indeed, the Abba Kyari case is a phenomenon in judicial or public affair. This is the first time I can recall that people are calling for the release and reinstatement of someone ostensibly facing criminal prosecution. All these go to show that the DCP Abba Kyari is not just a super cop but a special one and should be treated as such. God bless Nigeria!
