Taraba community seeks deployment of military personnel over killings

The Ichen community of Bissaula in Kurmi Local Government Area of Taraba State on Saturday appealed to the Commission of Inquiry set up by the government to unravel the issues around the Ichen/Ndaka crisis to submit its report.

The Ichen community said the timely submission of the report will enable the government to act on their recommendations to end the killings.

An Ichen elder and community leader, Ebi Bako at a press briefing in Jalingo also called on Governor Darius Ishaku to facilitate the deployment of military personnel in the area to prevent unprovoked attacks and killings still going on in the area.

Bako said, “We want to thank Governor Darius Ishaku for setting up a Commission of Inquiry to address the root causes of the conflict and find a lasting solution.

“As a peace-loving and law-abiding people, the Ichen community of Bissaula is appealing to the Commission of Inquiry to submit its report on time so that lasting peace will return to the Bissaula community.

“The Ichen community of Bissaula is also appealing to the Governor to as a matter of urgent importance ensure the deployment of military personnel to be stationed permanently in Bissaula to enforce peace between the Ichen and Ndaka people.

“Government should also ensure that the perpetrators and their accomplices are apprehended and dealt with in accordance to the laws of the land.”

The Ichen community also called for a thorough investigation into the alleged involvement of the Chairman of Vigilante group in Kurmi, Emmanuel Zachariah, regarding the recent interception of armed cartridges at Didan village.
