Technology: Can Artificial Intelligence Replace Human Intelligence? -By Ismaila Biliaminu Manne

In Nigeria as a case study, we are using AI to write exams, look for jobs, and create awareness even used in seeking admission into tertiary institutions. Notwithstanding all these tasks being performed by AI, it is trying to take some diplomatic path for building the next generation of machines.

Artificial Intelligence

Technology had spread all over the universe and things are changing in tune with the current situation, AI is now the talk of the town. You will see that everywhere you go, you will observe the presence of artificial intelligence there in one way or the other.

It is to my dismay to see rapid development in the tech industry with the aid of artificial intelligence here and there. It has virtually replaced all human activities in every sector because the crude or old method of using man as the workforce is no more in vogue. With the help of AI, things have become much easier and faster than in the olden days.

Every developed nation is in use of AI to smoothly run its governance and policy-making strategy. Currently, developing nations are imitating the recent trend, of the use of AI in their governance.

AI Replaces Bankers

Without a doubt, Artificial Intelligence has replaced and snatched the jobs of bankers for the better good across the globe.

Though, It is useful in our homes, offices, schools, and the like. I observed and affirm how taking over the jobs of cashiers in banks, slowly watching them fade away as humans were replaced with whirring terminals such as ATMs, machines had changed our mode of communication by post to mobile phones but my concern is that these machines are programmed to do or likely to do everything a human being is capable of doing.

Any right-thinking person will also be wondering with me what will be the fate of up-and-coming accountants, and other human activities if eventually, machines are programmed to dispense cash instead of cashiers, and it let the use of banking activities fair and Square.

Pilots And Photographers Lose their Jobs

The United States Military is currently using autonomous drones that conduct surveillance and attack without the assistance of humans. As these drones become more advanced and capable, many pilots and photographers lost their job to artificial intelligence and they’re going to adapt to other fields in the meantime.

However, lots of companies are looking into replacing their human resources with computer assistance (Artificial Intelligence) that could be remotely aided by a few people if needed with less expenditure.

Lawyers In Discontent

Law firms are already replacing paralegals and other staff with e-discovery lawyers and research robots. These robots are capable of combing through millions of documents and discovering relevant facts, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, and other information based on keywords.

Therefore, if artificial intelligence can play this role effectively, and easier, Lawyers are bound to lose their befitting jobs in the meantime.

Will AI Replace Human Writers

I never really care about AI replacing every task being performed by a man in so far as it is making work easier and faster but I ponder on what if this-called machine replaces human writers.

Many news agencies and websites are already employing the help of computer-assisted writing (e.g., ChatGPT) and information-gathering software robots. If you read news stories on the Internet, you have very likely read a story generated by a computer and not a human. As software becomes smarter, it’s going to replace even more journalist and reporter jobs.

What do you think will happen if robots begin writing more entertaining articles like stories, opinions, reports, and even fiction write up (that I can hardly do)? It’s not like there is an end to achieving this but the fear of programming machines to do these tasks is what makes me feel bad. What will happen to the skills I have honed for?

The answer to the above question is not so straightforward. Artificial intelligence has come a long way in the last few years to ease human tasks but do you think it can fully replace human activities? I doubt it can be possible, and if it is, it will take a long way to be able to deal with the same complexity of language and ideas that humans can deal with.

However, we should be mindful of how AI is changing the narrative in terms of writing and content creation. We should be prepared if it happens, and how are we to cope if it has been made to do so?

In Nigeria as a case study, we are using AI to write exams, look for jobs, and create awareness even used in seeking admission into tertiary institutions. Notwithstanding all these tasks being performed by AI, it is trying to take some diplomatic path for building the next generation of machines.
