President Bola Tinubu, Gov. Seyi Makinde, and Gov. Ademola Adeleke joined dignitaries in Ibadan for the coronation of Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan. The historic ceremony at Mapo Hall marks a proud cultural moment for the Yoruba people.

President Bola Tinubu, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke were among the dignitaries who arrived in Ibadan on Friday for the coronation of the new Olubadan, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.
The historic ceremony is taking place at the iconic Mapo Hall, where Ladoja, a former Oyo State governor and senator, is being formally installed as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Oba Ladoja, 81, was selected as Olubadan following the passing of Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin on July 7, 2025. His journey to the throne reflects decades of steady progression through the traditional Olubadan chieftaincy hierarchy.
Known for his contributions in politics, business, and grassroots leadership, the new monarch’s ascension is being celebrated as a defining moment for the ancient city.
Excitement swept across Ibadan as residents and well-wishers thronged the streets to witness the historic event.
The Olubadan of Ibadanland remains not only the paramount ruler of the Oyo State capital but also a custodian of Yoruba heritage. The stool carries immense cultural, historical, and political weight, making Oba Ladoja’s coronation a source of pride for Ibadan and beyond.
