President Tinubu presents Budget

President Bola Tinubu has begun the presentation of the 2026 Appropriation Bill before a joint session of the National Assembly in Abuja, formally flagging off the 2026 budget process.

The President arrived at the National Assembly complex at exactly 3.01pm under tight security and was received by the leadership of both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Proceedings commenced with an opening prayer delivered at 3.05pm by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (APC, Abia North).

The joint sitting is being attended by several state governors, including those of Imo, Ogun, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, Delta, Niger, Lagos and Kwara states, reflecting the nationwide importance of the budget presentation.

Also present are Vice President Kashim Shettima, top government officials, ministers, principal officers of the National Assembly, senior political figures and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The 2026 Appropriation Bill is expected to spell out the Federal Government’s expenditure plans, revenue outlook and major policy directions for the next fiscal year, with emphasis on economic stability, growth and the continuation of ongoing reforms.

The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, began his welcome address at 3.13pm, during which he described the 2026 budget as one aimed at “national renewal.”
