Tinubu’s Reforms Bringing Positive Results, Says SGF Akume at Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary
SGF George Akume says Nigerians are beginning to see benefits of President Tinubu’s economic reforms, citing easing inflation, renewed foreign investment, and job creation ahead of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, says Nigerians are beginning to experience the benefits of President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms.
Speaking at a World Press Conference in Abuja on Monday to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, Akume said the administration’s policies, though tough, are crucial for stabilising the economy, boosting investor confidence, and laying a foundation for sustainable growth.
“Through our mandate, we provide an institutional backbone that drives programmes and initiatives designed to make Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda not just a slogan, but the reality for Nigerians,” Akume said.
He acknowledged that the reforms are “bold and imaginative, but sometimes difficult,” stressing they were necessary steps for progress.
“Already, we are witnessing positive results. Inflationary pressures are beginning to ease, foreign investment inflows have shown renewed interest, while job creation initiatives are expanding opportunities for our youths,” he added.
Akume also noted that social intervention programmes are being strengthened to cushion the impact of the reforms on vulnerable citizens.
Highlighting the anniversary theme, “Nigeria at 65: All Hands-on Deck for a Greater Nation,” he urged all Nigerians—youths, elders, entrepreneurs, farmers, traders, professionals, military and paramilitary personnel, as well as the diaspora—to contribute to nation-building.
He described Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda as a framework for national rebirth, inclusivity, and sustainable progress, especially for young people.
Akume further assured that his office, as the government’s coordinating hub, is ensuring inter-ministerial synergy and effective implementation of presidential priorities.
Appealing to citizens to remain united and resilient, he said:
“Our journey from 1960 to this moment has been marked by triumphs and moments of joy and of testing. But through it all, the Nigerian spirit has remained high and unbroken.
“We have endured challenges in governance, economy, security and social cohesion. Our true strength lies in our capacity to consistently rise after every storm, to rebuild after every setback and forge ahead with resilience and faith in our destiny as a nation.”
