UNICAL Don named alongside King Charles, others as Notable Environmentalist

Nigerian environmentalist Professor Aniebiet Inyang Ntui has been listed as a notable environmentalist by Wikipedia, alongside prominent figures such as former US Vice President Al Gore and King Charles III. She is the only Nigerian and one of four Africans listed.

The list was compiled based on the environmentalists’ activities in lobbying for environmental protection and conservation. Aniebiet is known for her advocacy work on climate and biodiversity and has been serving as the Ambassador of the European Climate Pact since December 2022. She was also named by the Web of Science as the “Most Read Researcher in Nigeria” and currently holds the position of University Librarian at the University of Calabar.

Wikipedia’s list of notable environmentalists includes well-known names such as David Attenborough, Greta Thunberg, former US President Theodore Roosevelt, Rachel Carson, and Leonardo DiCaprio, among others. Aniebiet’s inclusion is a testament to her contributions to environmental protection and conservation in Nigeria and beyond.

The list also features three other remarkable Africans: Wangari Maathai from Kenya, who was the first African woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize; Vanessa Nakate, a Ugandan youth climate justice activist and UN SDG 13 Young Leader; and Nyombi Morris, a Ugandan youth environmental activist who was named CNN Environmentalist of Tomorrow.

Aniebiet’s work as an environmentalist and diplomat has gained her local and international recognition. She has been advocating for climate action and biodiversity conservation, working tirelessly to raise awareness about the importance of protecting the environment.
