Kwara United goalkeeper, Dele Aiyenugba, and his son, Daniel of Beyond Limits Football Academy, will be in between the sticks against each other when both teams clash in the first semi-final of the Value Jet pre-season tournament in Ikenne on Tuesday (today), PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Kwara finished second in Group A to set up the clash against the academy boys, who defied the odds and topped Group B, which had 3SC, Rivers United and Abia Warriors.

Aiyenugba’s son has been particularly impressive for Beyond Limits with some eye-catching saves as they earned two draws against 3SC and Rivers United, before beating Abia Warriors 2-0 and end the group stage with five points.

Beyond Limits were a last-minute inclusion in the eight-team pre-season tournament, after Sunshine Stars FC didn’t turn up for the competition.

“I am really looking forward to it. It should be a great game. I have watched him do great stuff against teams; it will be a dream come true to see him play against me in a tournament of this magnitude. Whatever happens, I’ll be a proud father again,” Aiyenugba told PUNCH Sports Extra.

Aiyenugba’s son, Daniel, started making the news in 2021 at the age of 12, after winning the goalkeeper of the tournament award at the Ramat Cup in Kano.

Equally good in stopping spot kicks like his father, the 15-year-old attributed his development to his father’s influence.

“I watch a lot of video clips of my dad, even up till now. After watching him too, anytime he comes home during their off season, he does his goalkeeping training on the same pitch with me and my brother,” he told our correspondent.

In the other semi-final also billed for today, Remo Stars will faceoff against 3SC as the winners meet in Thursday’s final.
