US Airstrike on Terrorists in Sokoto Sparks Optimism Among Nasarawa Residents
Nasarawa residents welcome the U.S. airstrike on a terrorist camp in Sokoto’s Bargini village, expressing optimism it will curb insecurity, while some critique the religious framing in Trump’s statement.
Residents of Nasarawa State have expressed excitement over the recent U.S. airstrike on a suspected terrorist camp in Bargini village, Jabo, Tambuwal Local Government Area, Sokoto State. Many hope the operation will help end decades of insecurity in the country.
While most welcomed the U.S. military action against terrorists, some were critical of the religious framing in President Donald Trump’s statement.
A prominent northern leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, said: “Though I am not comfortable with the religious narrative that accompanied Donald Trump’s statement on the strike in northern Nigeria, I wholeheartedly welcome the cooperation between Nigeria and the United States of America to defeat terrorism and banditry in our land. I also believe that Trump is neither fighting a crusade war in Nigeria, nor is America a father Christmas nation. We must therefore pay the price of every ton of American bombs used in fighting terrorism in our land. We must pay through economic concessions, but perhaps it’s worth it as the price for peace and security in Nigeria.”
Other residents called for Nasarawa State to be included in future targeted operations, noting that the state is a known hideout for bandits.
