Why I Distaste Today’s Politics -By Usama Abdullahi

Was I around when our country was freed on 1st October 1960? No! I wasn’t. Still, I enjoyed it and have to be more joyful whenever it’s October. Why? it’s because history has it completely written and free from overnights. And this was what enlightened me with all that I may seek to know about the genesis of Nigerian politics and how it’s been very lush then.

It’s not so long that I became ripened or cognizant of today’s politics. Well, I’m yet trying to emerge unto the steps for better comprehension of the circumstances therein. But since I began reading and a little study of the politics, so numb I became as I’ve learned no good in it. What I could be able to grab in wasn’t beneficial that I ever thought of.

Certainly, there live more chaoses in current politics than that of our erstwhile politicians’, which I was told that there weren’t many confusions in theirs. Neither did I lived with them nor was I even in embryo during their reign in politics. Yet all that they’ve laid down, the rights or wrongs, had been inscribed and to which not only my generation will grow to read through or witness, but, in fact, the foetus will be born, crawl, and later be taught about that once being matured.

History doesn’t inappropriately hold forth what has already been into view. It tells the right thing that occurred and that, it will not be subverted by the future descendants, shall be in the books, perpetually.

I wouldn’t have to mention the pleasing efforts, super cool and the goodly governance of Sir, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Sardauna of Sokoto, Obafemi Awolowo, before my points get everyone convinced of how beautiful theirs were and very distinguishing from our today’s. Likewise, I don’t have to write down multiple reasons before being well understood about that. I just don’t distaste things willingly: without a careful look at its ugly activities, proofs, or knowledge of its failure. I always have my motives for such aversions.

I’ve now fallen into an ultrahot pot of today’s politics, which all the necessary assistance is therefore of utmost need for me to be cooled. And for me to be cooled as I hoped, it would be nice for me to list the motives of my distaste for it. In view of the status quo, one would definitely understand the inaccuracy of today’s politics.

Corruption is a major agent that contributed to lessening my interest in politics. Corruption has now begets wings, which it could spread and fly to the destination of its desire and with nobody kicking up a fuss over it. That means it’s now overpowered the people in politics (politicians). This corruption is enough to shrink the vigorousness of a nation to a grotesque look. And truthfully, this is what many nations are enduring. Another thing that annoyed and made me to distaste politics the most is solipsism.

There shall be a continuous repulsive decay in whatever country if its decisions tend to be selfishly made. Many staff appointed to assist the Presidents, VPs, Governors, etc, oftentimes come to their masters with their own mind-sets and urge them to propose so that it could be laid down on the nobodies. Mind you, such mind-sets may jeopardize the lives of the nobodies. Aren’t these sufficient to tumble anyone’s interest in today’s politics? I’m sure that a day shall come when politics will really interest me. But unlike todays with its disgusting look.
