On Thursday, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf gave his approval for Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II to be reappointed as Kano’s 14th Emir.
In addition, Yusuf granted the five former emirs 48 hours to leave their official homes and turn over their previous emirate holdings to the Commissioner of Local Governments. Remember when Sanusi was deposed after a falling out with Abdullahi Ganduje, the former governor?
Ganduje separated the former Kano Emirate into the emirates of Bichi, Gaya, Karaye, and Rano on December 5, 2019.
On October 14, 2020, Ganduje signed a legislation revision, and on April 11, 2023, he signed another one. Five separate emirates were established by the law under section 3(1). Kano, Bichi, Rano, Gaya, and Karaye are among them.
Kano and Karaye have eight local government areas of jurisdiction each, while Bichi and Gaya emirates share nine local government areas of jurisdiction each.
Meanwhile, Rano Emirate enjoys jurisdiction over 10 local government areas out of the 44 local councils in the state.
However, after assessing the emirates, Kano State House of Assembly, on Thursday, dethroned the five emirs and abolished the five emirates in the state.
