11 Nigerians arrested and detained in Germany for operating dating scams

Eleven suspected members of the Nigerian crime syndicate Black Axe were apprehended by German police on Wednesday during widespread raids, according to DW.
Although the majority of the 11 accused have lived in Germany for a long time, they are all reportedly nationals of Nigeria. They are alleged to be in charge of dating websites where scam victims are tricked into marriage promises.
According to authorities, the group collaborated with con artists who sent money to them in Nigeria under the guise of “financial agents.”
The investigation, which according to the newspaper targeted 19 properties, is a component of Germany’s efforts to expose widespread money laundering and dating frauds in the nation.
This current investigation coincides with two months after two Nigerian men and a Thai lady were detained by Thai officials in Phuket’s Thalang area on suspicion of being involved in a romance scam.
Law officers also took 50 cocaine sachets and a digital balance from the property in addition to the arrests.
