A Reminder To Honourable Minister Of Water Resources About Embankment At AUYO Town -By Adamu Harisu Abdullahi

The reminder is necessary sir following a report published by PM News which is an online newspaper on Thursday 28 may, 2020 that not fewer than 102 local government areas in 28 states of the federation are at high risk of flooding and 275 local government areas in 36 states and federal capital at the moderate risk of flooding which AUYO is among them as revealed by 2020 annual flood outlook (AFO) released by Nigerian Hydrological Survey Agency(NIHSA).

Dear Sir,

On behalf of AUYO youths Association, which is the apex youths association in the local government area, We hope you are in good mode during this trying of global COVID 19 pandemic, may almighty God make it easy for us and the global societies generally, we hope the ministry of water resources is moving smoothly under your watch.

Sir as the present federal administration have much concerned on the good citizens of AUYO local government, among them is the rehabilitation of our irrigation project which cost billions of naira under the watch of your ministry, indeed we appreciated the gesture of the federal government gear to boost our economy because most of us in this area are farmers of both dry and rainy season as the local government is the food basket of Jigawa state by producing millions of bags of rice annually to support the sustainable development goal to fight against hunger, but sir our major setback towards achieving this united nation goals is flooding each year which submerge our farmland as well as our houses each year.

Sir the reminder is necessary following the efforts of various civil societies in the local government to the federal authorities to look for the matter of the embankment project which was the promise to us by Hon minister following the September 19th, 2019 flood in the local government area which submerges thousands of hectares of rice farmland in various villages and town in the local government among them Ayama, AUYO, Kateje, Jura, Zubaro, Gamafoi, Kure and other villages around the riverbank in the local government area, this lead to a shortage of food supply which never occur in the history of AUYO local government, billions of naira was also lost as revealed by federal and states government agencies published by AllAfrica newspaper as the farmers lost their farm produce completely and their houses including those that took a loan from bank and government to expand their production.

Sir the reminder is necessary through youths association due to the fact that youths are at the front line to cope with any disaster in the society, it is youths that work day and night to construct embankment around the community to minimize the disaster leading to our economic activities to subsidizes, it was the youths that have a sleepless night during any disaster in the society. Sir the provision of the embankment will serve as mitigation and adaptation toward the prevention of further flood in the area.
