A Tale of Blackmail and the Unraveling of Justice: Who Needs the Soda for a Washdown? -By Shalom Kasim

This story serves as a reminder, a mirror held up to our own world. It calls upon us to question the delicate balance between justice and manipulation, to reflect on the consequences of our actions. It reminds us that the path to a just society is not always straightforward, and the road to truth is often fraught with twists and turns.

I find myself drawn to the intricacies of human behaviour and the captivating stories that unfold in our society. Today, I’d like to share with you a tale, a cautionary tale, if you will, about a child accused of a misdeed and the perilous path that lies in the wake of their alleged transgressions.

Picture, if you will, a child —innocent in the eyes of some, suspicious in the gaze of others. Like the characters of old in classical epics, this child finds themselves caught in a web of accusations, their very existence hanging in the balance. What unfolds next is a series of tactics that can sway the pendulum of justice for or against a subjective favour, and a disdain against the judicial system.

In ancient times, there was a story that mirrors this modern-day dilemma. It was the tale of Prometheus, the cunning Titan who stole fire from the gods and bestowed it upon humanity. Prometheus faced the wrath of the gods, but he was not alone in his struggle. There were those who admired his audacity and sought to stand by his side, and there were others who despised him, seeing only his defiance and the potential danger it held.

Similarly, in our present society, the child in question is not without allies and adversaries. They possess a formidable weapon in the form of a cunning tactic (call it that, if you may), an age-old tool used towards rhetorical ends and gaining advantage. These tactics, though morally dubious, have had the power to tip the scales of justice in unexpected ways.

Yet, let us tread carefully, especially as the potential to remain unbiased about this is really miniature. My commentary does not pass judgment on either party involved. It merely highlights the inherent complexities of such situations. The child’s tactics do not inherently make them guilty, just as the suspicions against them do not automatically pronounce them innocent.
We would all agree that the dance between truth and deception, especially in Nigeria, is a delicate one, with layers of gray obscuring the clarity of right and wrong.

In this tapestry of intrigue, we witness a society teetering on the edge. The whispers of discontent reverberate through the streets, painting portraits of leaders whose motives are questioned, and whose actions are seen as self-serving. Trust, that fragile thread that holds communities together, frays under the strain of doubt and suspicion. The very foundation of a society built on faith in its leaders begins to crumble.

In the end, let us remember that this commentary is not about guilt or innocence but rather about the power of some tactics to sway public opinion and corrode faith in our leaders who [may] really deserve our faith reposed in them.
I am a creative writer and editor, and it is my hope that by exploring such narratives, we can delve deeper into the human condition and cultivate a society that values justice, truth, and integrity above all.

My name is Shalom Kasim, and I believe that if our child is guilty, there is a legal provision to check her guilt, without necessarily having to temper justice with mercy.
Conversely, if those we’ve had to repose trust in are at fault [again], we reserve every right to call them to the utmost level of ethics and professionalism.

For the meantime, let’s be aware of possible manipulative tactics in form of emotional blackmail from both parties, perhaps especially our dear little one.
