Adieu Papa.

Even if the road to the cemetery is closed,
We shall bury our hero in the hearts of songs.

Your demise emptied our water tank
the night the owl announced your transition to glory,
that afternoon – we saw death grinning in your pains,
but we hoped the words from the missal will keep you more years.

the unyielding death came,neglecting our utmost pleas
Now – ‘ Ọmọ Olókú’ will be our interim name for many weeks to come
A brand new heavenly home,shall be built by a renowned coffin maker
to replace his old dilapidated earthly home

the burial attire shall come in different brands and adorable colours
and the elegant covering of our father will be on everyone’s lips for weeks’

the best wine shall be ordered for your final transition
even though,you drank spits to your satisfaction
we do not care if you are forsaken on earth,
We shall transit you with love and affection.

the wretched dàńsíkí you wore shall be burnt
and the ashes shall mark the end of your tribulations
you shall glow in this beautiful white silk
as your new co-tenants envy your glamour and splendour.

we may not have gathered to treat your persistent ibà
but we are here – from our respective abroads
to send you forth to the land of the deads
where malaria has long been arrested.

You now wear the best fragrances of high value,
far away from your smelly aroma you lived with.
your earthly stay was full shambles and tribulations
Cheer up Papa – Your heavenly home will fair in blissfulness

adieu Papa – Pa. Ayélọjà ọ́runnilé,
the legacy you left behind is worth emulating

Translation :

Omo Olókú – Children of the deceased (Yoruba)
Dàńsíkí – A form of clothe worn by the Yoruba people
Ibà – Malaria (Yoruba)
Ayélojà Órunnilé – A Yoruba name.
