Education reform in Nigeria school system

According to Wikipedia, education is the transmission of knowledge, skills, and character traits and manifests in various forms. The main purpose of introducing education in Africa as of that time was to enable the Colonial masters communicate with people they colonized, not to impact creative knowledge that would be beneficial to our societies. There are many determinants factors that make one acquire good education or transmit the require knowledge to their audience.

These factors include but not limited to the available and qualified teachers, educational tools for learning, time and good salary structures for the teachers and all the educational members of staff. It is high and crucial time for Nigeria to look into her educational system, thereby coming up with strategical method that will introduce creative visions, skills and mindset of creativity right from the primary levels.

The country is blessed with young talented people but do not know how to explore and use those talents or gifts, Nigeria should transfer from the idea of just going to school to only learn how to speak good English but can not create something out of it, today in Nigeria if one do not know how to speak grammar no mater how skillful and creative you may be, you are considered as nobody, yet we have road side mechanics who most of them didn’t go to any school but are far better than our university graduates when it come to practical aspects.

It is only in Africa, Nigeria in particular, that a primary school child offers 12 or moer subject, what are you expecting such child to learn? How many brain does that child has? Can the country look beyond just colonial system of education to cut down the primary school subjects to at least 4 or 5. Some schools in Nigeria, English language is compulsory but subjects like agriculture, social sciences, technology are options, how can we diversify our economy, if we do not have agriculturists, today the country is facing food security challenges, but we have enough land for any kind of agricultural activities, yet we produce less than what we consume, farmers are not encourage or educated to that direction.

The politicians contributed much in fallen down of our education sector, competent teachers are not employed, they only recruit people who serve their purpose during campaign, turning education into dumping refuse where they compensate their followers in the name of giving them because people to turn against them , now the question is, can some one give what he doesn’t have?.

The World is changing fast with the technological advancement, the countries that achieved this didn’t achieve with such of education system, like I earlier said, let the government come out with mechanism, encourage skill acquisitions from the primary education levels, employ enough and qualified teachers, reduce the number of subjects taught in primary and secondary schools, good learning environments for both the students and their teachers, and above all, their salaries.
