Aguleri incident: Does this even sound reasonable to you? -By Charles Ogbu

That woman spent over 8 years with her late husband in the marriage and upon the death of the man after being ill (not like he died suddenly), all she got was being paraded naked and marched round the community and an!mals are telling me n0nsense about tradition. How does an evil act done by the family of the deceased suddenly become a tradition?

The biggest tragedy of the Aguleri incident is seeing educated adults stand decency, logic and common sense on its head in a bid to defend and justify that 15th century barbarism.

But beyond that, one thing the incident brought to the fore is that our claim to civilization is a farce. A complete sham. We are a very very uncivilised people. Forget the packaging.

This is why a seemingly enlightened person would argue, in the 21st century 2022, that it is okay to strip a woman naked and parade her round the community based merely on the allegation that she caused the death of her husband by sleeping with another man. And in order to legitimise this savagery, these 15th century barbarians invoke tradition – an alibi which every idjiot now invoke to justify their idiosyncratic demons.

A wicked family kicks their late brother’s wife out of her matrimonial home and takes over the property which rightfully belong to the widow and her kids and the next thing you hear from ijdiots is that it is tradition. Every deplorable act is now justified with ‘it is tradition’.

How do you, an adult, believe in a tradition that k!lls a man for his wife’s misdeed???? Like, your tradition is not potent enough to k!ll the adulterous woman but somehow, it is powerful enough to k!ll the innocent man who probably may not even be aware of his wife’s adultery??

Does this even sound reasonable to you?

And then, the same tradition doesn’t k!ll the woman when the husband commits the same act of adultery??

Like, how? Make this make sense, please!

Quite frankly, those of you defending this n0nsense are sounding quite dense. You make tradition sound so abhorable, so detestable. So repugnant. If you are that comfortable with evil in the name of tradition, how about you go back to your family and start k!ll!ng twins again?? Abi that one no be your tradition?🤔

I thought we are all educated nah!
Education is supposed to refine us. Overhaul us. Improve our thought processes and equip us with the mental capacity to discern. Give us the ability to analyse what we hear and see if it makes sense before we start to disseminate it. This is what real education means.

If your aim is to discourage adultery by married women, you are doing a very terrible job of it, even!

To be clear, I am of the view that adultery is condemnable. But you cannot discourage it with this primitive puerile falsity.

How about ‘inventing’ and promoting a tradition’ (even if it is a myth) that k!lls anyone – husband or wife – who commits adultery? Isn’t this a far better, quicker and easier way of fighting adultery than this illogical nonsense.

I’m glad that good spirited individuals from the state and beyond are reaching out to the woman. The Police have made arrests too. Those be@sts deserve to pay dearly for this.
