ASUU-FG: Strike organising committee begins meeting

The National Strike Coordinating Committee of the Academic Staff Union of Universities has commenced a meeting in line with the ongoing strike in Nigerian public universities, The PUNCH can confirm.

A highly reliable source confirmed the development in an interview with our correspondent on Wednesday night.

ASUU had on Monday, February 14, 2022, embarked on a nationwide strike.

The union had blamed the government for failing to meet some of its lingering demands which include the release of the earned allowances for lecturers; release of revitalization funds for universities; deployment of the University Transparency Accountability System for the payment of salaries and allowances of lecturers among others.

The union had engaged in a series of meetings with the representatives of the government.

The latest meeting was a dialogue between the Emeritus Professor Nimi Briggs committee and the union.

ASUU’s National President, Emmanuel Osodeke, could not immediately be reached for comments at the time of filing this report.
