Early Display Of Portraits Of Governorship Aspirants For 2023 Election Is Improper: Section 99(1) Of The Electoral Act 2010(As Amended) Refers -By Shariff M.M Al-hassan

Displaying pictures without fear of anything this time around portrays that they are omega and that nothing will happen and that they are capable and that’s why they act against the supremacy of the law of the land.

The dicey question is how can the pictures be displayed for the election that is coming up in two years time be put up now. This expression of interest for the highest office in the State is not done in this way when there is a clear provisions as to how and when it should be done as provided in section 99(1) of the Electoral Act 2010 ( As Amended).

Displaying pictures without fear of anything this time around portrays that they are omega and that nothing will happen and that they are capable and that’s why they act against the supremacy of the law of the land.

Gentlemen why in a haste, you all have higher values built strongly in faith. Does one has guarantee to reach that time. A friend of mine and one of the Governorship Aspirants has for some months now passed away, late Ndanusa Usuman Kafa ( May his gentle soul rest in peace ameen). This is one of the examples to bear.

Why disobeying the law set down to follow. This is not proper and I believe INEC is watching. Since the position being jostled for is the office of Governor of the State, the Aspirants must be seen to observe the followings:

i- Obey the laws of the land.

ii-Copy rightly from those advanced democracies.

iii-Rely more on what Allah will do.

iv-Do not hide any ulterior motives by merely to display the picture.

v- Display the worth through physical means and not by mere shadow of picture.

vi- Aspirant/s are known not necessarily by pictures displayed long before election but his known through his physical actions over time to his environment and to his people.

Let us reflect on another two angles which postulate that leaders are produced through the power of destiny. One is by the Supreme will of “be” and it is done. The other is the lessons we must learn from what happened in the past in Governorship saga in Niger state. As none of the foregoing Ex-Governors from Niger State that came having displayed their pictures for two years before their elections:

i- The First Civilian Governor of Niger State in 1979. His Royal Highness Alh.Ibrahim Awwal, the Emir of Suleja.

ii-Late Dr. Musa Inuwa.

iii- Late Egr.A. A. Kure.

iv- Dr Mua’azu B. Aliyu Talba Minna.

These are examples of Niger State Governors that came up by the sheer will of Allah. None of them displayed their portraits/pictures on streets two years before their elections.

The Supreme Being that did this for these people is still around and HE can still do it again and again. As probably the next Niger State Governor may not be from among all those already jostling for it expressing their interest for the position.

Therefore let the right thing be done and stop going against the Electoral Act 2010 ( As Amended). Please those affected should order for the removal of their pictures from the streets, moving vehicles and on the Bill Boards as 2023 is still far and nobody can tell what will happen before that time. Note that from now to 2023 is filled with impregnations of surprises and unknown factors. As well as the power of INEC to display his legal powers to the defaulters at the appropriate time. This I’m not praying for it. But do the right and obvious things.
