Ekiti 2026: Governor Oyebanji Expresses Confidence in APC, Calls for Fairness Ahead of Primaries
Ekiti Governor Biodun Oyebanji, seeking a second term, expressed confidence in APC’s ability to deliver a credible 2026 governorship primary. He urged fairness for all aspirants and pledged support for whoever emerges as the party’s candidate.
Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has voiced strong confidence in the ability of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to conduct a credible governorship primary and secure victory in the 2026 elections.
The governor, who is seeking a second term on the party’s platform, made this known on Tuesday after appearing before the APC Governorship Screening Committee chaired by Hon. Tunji Olawuyi in Abuja.
Oyebanji, the first aspirant to face the panel, arrived at the screening venue—a hotel in Gwarinpa—around 10 a.m. His credentials were reviewed during a closed-door session that lasted about 15 minutes.
Speaking to journalists afterward, he commended the APC leadership for organizing a transparent and orderly process.
“I must commend the APC for putting this structure in place. It will save the party from a lot of problems. I have absolute confidence that the party will get it right,” Oyebanji said.
He urged the party’s national leadership to ensure a level playing field for all aspirants, stressing that those who scale the screening stage should be given equal opportunity to present their manifestos to members.
The governor also expressed optimism that the October 27 governorship primary would reflect the will of the people.
“This is only the screening stage. Next comes the appeal committee, the congress committee, then the election proper. Whoever emerges must be supported, because it is not just about the aspirants, it is about returning our party to power and serving the people,” he stated.
The APC Screening Committee is expected to interview all four aspirants seeking the party’s ticket between Tuesday and Wednesday.
Governor Oyebanji was accompanied by prominent associates and political leaders, including Senators Olubunmi Adetunmbi, Yemi Adaramodu (Ekiti South), Cyril Fasuyi (Ekiti North), Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, Hon. Kolawole Akinlayo, AVM Niyi Ojuawo (rtd.), Hon. Wunmi Ogunlola, Hon. Bimbo Daramola, Hon. Ibrahim Olanrewaju, Prince Wole Ajakaiye, Mr. Yinka Oyebode, Hon.
