Enough is enough: Ondo State Amotekun vow to embark on protest over non-issuance of appointment and confirmation letters for 5 years -By Segun Adebowale
An independent enquiry panel should be set up, as the Commandant has allegedly influenced some media houses and compromised some leaders of the Ondo State House of Assembly.
The rank and file of the Ondo State Amotekun Corps wondered why they were being treated like slaves, even when they risk their lives to protect others. On the 10th of October 2025, Ekujumi Julius, who is an Assistant Superintendent of Amotekun, posted a 16-minute, 49-second video on his Facebook page complaining that they have been working for the past five years, yet the Ondo State Government has not given them either appointment or confirmation letters.
He also complained that the Amotekun Corps Commandant is the only one who was given an appointment letter by the state government, which he said is wrong. According to him, the Commandant will eventually leave, but they will still remain in service. He also accused the State Commandant of using nepotism and favoritism in the distribution of ranks.
He alleged that the Commandant promoted one of his boys, “Eja,” five times in one year. According to him, Eja is an ex-convict. He also alleged that the Commandant retained his female ex-corper mistress and paid the ex-corper the salary of an Assistant Superintendent II without any form of training—while officers who have been working for more than five years have not been promoted. “This is wickedness and inhuman treatment to all Ondo State Amotekun Corps,” he said.
Ekujumi Julius said they are prepared to stage a peaceful protest anytime from now. He stated that they will first move to the Ondo State House of Assembly, then to the Ondo State Government House. He also pleaded with other sister security agencies not to stop them from carrying out their lawful peaceful protest, which he said could start at any moment. He emphasized that a lot of Ondo State Amotekun Corps members are ready to come out en masse.
These are the demands Ekujumi Julius, on behalf of his fellow Amotekun officers, is making:
1. Issuance of appointment letters to all Ondo State Amotekun Corps.
2. Issuance of confirmation letters to all officers who are due.
3. Conduct a headcount of all Ondo State Amotekun Corps to end the issue of ghost workers.
4. Review all ranks in the Ondo Amotekun Corps to correct nepotism and favoritism.
5. Use academic qualifications to place each officer in their rightful rank and grade.
6. Suspend Chief Adetuji Adeleye for embezzlement of training allowances and salaries meant for Ondo State Amotekun Corps.
7. Add Ondo State Amotekun to the official Ondo State payroll.
8. Create a pension system and gratuity benefits for Ondo State Amotekun officers after retirement.
9. Stop the recruitment of illiterates and overage applicants into the Ondo State Amotekun Corps.
10. Organize training and retraining programs for Ondo State Amotekun Corps, especially in weapon handling and respect for human rights.
11. Create standard operational procedures and a code of conduct to serve as rules and regulations for Ondo State Amotekun Corps.
12. Create functional departments at all Amotekun local government and zonal offices.
13. Place graduate Amotekun officers in charge of local government and zonal commands. This will put an end to using primary school certificate holders to command graduates with MSc, BSc, HND, OND, NCE, and SSCE.
14. Create an organizational structure and chain of command for the Ondo State Amotekun Corps.
15. Establish an Ondo State Amotekun Board to prevent the Commandant from acting as both the Commandant and the Board Chairman. This will help the board chairman to check and balance the power of the Commandant.
16. The State Government should audit the Ondo State Amotekun Corps, which has not been audited in the past five years.
17. The EFCC and ICPC should investigate Chief Adetuji Adeleye for misappropriation of government funds, Amotekun Corps money, and the diversion of Amotekun property for personal use.
18. An independent enquiry panel should be set up, as the Commandant has allegedly influenced some media houses and compromised some leaders of the Ondo State House of Assembly.
